Motorcraft 820s
Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w20

go to a shop and pay them to do the 1st oil change. then do all the other oil changes yourself. a robot installs the filter at the factory...trust me, it is on there VERY VERY tightly. I ended up using a screwdriver and hammer to get the damn thing off. most shops have the specialized filter wrench to fit the OEM filter

Im running Royal Purple 5w20 full synthetic with K&N gold filter-(but only because I can get it half price )

And I will second the first oil change being pain in the but with filter on from factory, it was rough but managable.

there is a metal filter wrench from napa, the kind that goes over the end of the filter and has a 3/8 socket drive end so u use a ratchet to turn it off, bring a fl820s into napa and fit to find it, it is invaluable and fits the teeth on the end perfectly and costs like 5 bucks

The idea of going to a thicker oil has crossed my mind. What ill affects could it cause to the operation of the cam phaser?
Thanks...........

"I", per say, didn't do the first oil change. I bought the oil and filter and took it somewhere and had them do it because I didn't feel like fighting a 'robot tightened oil filter". You should have heard the guy cussin' up a storm while gently hammering a screwdriver through it, to get it off.

But, I will admit, the lifter ticking is starting to get quiet. Only 3200 miles on truck, so hopefully, it will start to quiet down some!

The lifter ticking will quiet down nicely using Mobil-1....I switched on my 2007 5.4 Screw at 3kmiles, have 16,400mi now & engine is quiet & purrs like a kitty! Your smart for letting someone else wrestle with the Gorilla mounted factory filter! Like I stated "That's my Girl"..........
