Telescoping trailer towing mirrors finally on
So if I read the thread correctly all I need to do for my '06 is move the ground wire from the 8th possition to the 9th. I'm going camping this weekend so I'll mess with it at the site. I'll post how it works out. Thanks to all that offered insight into this project.

for the grounds, you should have 3 grounds right now if u have power, heat, and turn. ford used a ground for each option. pins 2, 9, and 11
the new mirrors all share a ground somewhere hidden in the mirror and moved it to pin 8.
basically ford swapped pin 8 and 11 in the different years. in the 04-06, pin 8 was dome and pin 11 was ground......in 07-09, pin 8 is ground and pin 11 is dome.
what i did was move either pin 2 or 9 to pin 8. you should not have anything in the pin 8 slot now, if you do let me know...it means u already have the wiring for dome. then i would cut the wire in pin 11 about 4 inches past the cennector and tap that wire into the dome wire under the drivers door seal.
do the same for each mirror and u will be good to go!!!

The pins are in the connectors that are inside the doors that the mirrors plug into. I don't have a part number for the pins as I took one of them with me and showed it to the guy behind the counter and he gave me a small baggie with 8 and there was no part number on the bag....if it helps here is some info on the connector itself....

Wanted to share my experience. My truck is an 04 XLT (Built 11/03), power mirrors with no signals/head/puddles. All of the posts said to switch the 8 & 9 pin, but my truck did not have a #8 pin - the only ground was pin #2. I moved the #2 ground to #8 and they worked like a charm.
Also, as far as the pins go, between all of the pins Ford has used over the years, the dealer seriously had a tool box filled with about 250 different sizes. Having no specific part number, I just took the pin that I cut off of the #2 ground in there and matched them up - took five minutes maximum.
Crappy cell phone shot:

Hope that comes in handy for someone.

did you really move it to #9? #9 is the exterior rear view mirror signal for the 07-08 mirror. #8 is where it should go. it is the slot on the top right as u look at the connector with the tab on the right. #9 is the lower left as u look at the connector with the tab on the right. i just dont want to confuse ppl here. you only had one ground because you only had one option on your OEM mirrors.
dang, wish i lived closer to you...i would love to make $180 an hour!!! just messing with ya. to each their own....some dont have the time to do stuff like that.....
When I go to www.tascaparts.com the drop down menu for Ford replacement body parts does not have F150 as a choice??? Any reason why? Thanks for the help.
