well i moved from NC to san diego, i am running a troyer 93 octane performance tune, which was great in NC, but i now have noticeable power loss and ALOT more pinging running california 91 octane... i dont wanna mess with my timings, i would rather boost my octane, nothing crazy, just a bit better...
what is available, what is the best options
1. over the shelf (stp, No2, max104, prestone, etc)
2. torco
3. tolulene with alittle marvel mystery oil
4. find unleaded aviation fuel or race fuel

I'm pretty sure Troyer recommends *NOT* using any type of additives once you are custom tuned. I'd just give him a call and buy a single tune for your 91 Octane. You will just have to have the 93 tune replaced with a 91.

ive got some VP 114 octane race fuel for my bikes, the smell at motocross races is .....
that stuff smells sooo good....I doubt aviation fuel would be good for a truck, but then again idk, ive only ever run it in bikes.

I know the OP said unleaded racing fuel, however most racing fuel like the VP114 is leaded fuel. Leaded fuel will kill the O2's.
Unleaded racing fuel would be the best bet IMHO, but its going to be a PITA. You'll have to measure and calculate to get to your octane rating. If its something that you could put up with long term, then you could go that route. Last time I bought leaded racing fuel it was 5+ a gallon. Dont have a clue how much now. The unleaded fuel that I am familiar with is 100 octane and you are going to need a fair quantity to bring 91 up to 93 octane. Since you are in Cali, you might be able to get an E85 or an E50 (mixing) tune which will be higher octane and lower cost.

Welcome to Cali. When I lived in AZ I had the same problem. Didn't really notice the power loss until I moved back east, but while cruising on the freeway I'd get a couple pings when I'd give it gas. Nothing crazy and it was kinda quiet. I took it to Ford just before I pulled a trailer 2000 miles and all they could tell me is that it was 'normal.' Oh yah....and it didn't matter what gas I put in it. Brand, octane...nothing.
Get a tune for 91, like someone mentioned. The gas in Cali is very unpredictable.
To get best results, i run only Union76 or Shell premium, best power and mileage off those gas mixes. Once you get a 91 tune and use those fuel types, you'll be back in business.
You'll notice that the difference between 91 and 93 tunes really isnt much.
Since gas is so expensive here, gas companies dilute it a little and sell it for cheaper. Stick with 76 and shell, it makes a HUGE difference in how your truck runs, especially on performance tunes.

thanks guys, for all the replies..
i use only shell, others made me ping bad, never heard of 76, are they good? ill check them out next time
the consensus than is that i shouldnt add anything, man i would love to just add something and get that power back, oh well great replies
