Door chime quit working plus more....HELP!

My 04 F150 SC Lariat has developed a problem. The door chime quit working, the radio stays on with the key off and with the door open, the interior lights don't come on when you open the door and the door ajar indicator on the dash won't light up. Oh and the chime won't go off when you open the door and still have the key in the ignition.

Obviously they are all related to something. I have looked at the owners manual and no fuses seem to relate to the door chime / indicator. I double checked all the fuses and they are all good. I also swapped relays that control the delay power off function, no change.

One thing that could relate to it was I was having problems with my trailer lights and was using a wire brush to clean the contacts on the trailer plug. I then did it to the truck 4 pin plug and got a spark show because I still had the lights on. The trailer lights all work and everything else in the truck works.

One more thing, none of the 4 doors will make the door ajar light come on.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the door switch, I believe it's mounted inside behind the kick panel.

The chime is not so bad, but the radio staying on and the lights not working is the issue. Door switch in the kick panel? I thought it was in the door.

I did a search and looked at the sticky, but mine seems different that most of those. They all have the lights stay on. There was one person with the same issue and they didn't say how it got fixed.

If you got a Spark show You can almost bet you blew a fuse somewhere. Check them again. There is also am auxiliary relay box in the engine compartment on the drivers side fender. I haven't checked but there maybe some fuses there as well. Might want to check the owners manual.

I did all that twice, all the fuses are definately good in both locations. I even checked the relays (swapped them around). I don't thing the sparks were enough to blow a fuse as the wires on a wire brush are very small and probably just burned up instead of a fuse. Besides, those are on the trailer light circuit.

I am sure it is a coincident, but who knows? I am still leaning towards the door swich, but I find it odd the door ajar light won't come on with any door open.

Well, took the door latch assembly out and checked the switch operation. Everything works fine there, so I am on to searching for something else. Man, that is not the easiest thing to pull out of the door, but the whole thing only really took about an hour to do after I got it back together.

I am stumped, because if it is the ignition tumbler, it thinks the key is still in the ignition (radio stays on). If that was it, then the door should chime (key in ignition) and it doesn't. I am going to triple check the fuses and then if needed pull the tumbler.

Ideas? Suggestions?

it sounds like you have a big problom becuse this normaly only hapens with one door. you have a wire cut somewhere after all of the 4 doors conrcting them to the main harness that conects them to the ecu.

I took the instrument cluster out to see if maybe the door ajar light was burned out and could be the problem. It it an LED not one of the bulbs, so it is not that.
I disconnected the battery to see if that might reset something, nope.
I checked all the fuses and relays for the third time, nope.

What I need is a wiring schematic for this truck. Where can I download one?

I thought i heard something about wiring or contacts behind or above the fuse box being the culprit. I think water was leaking in around the firewall or windshield and causing corrosion . I would also pull your door sill plates on all doors and check for any water in the wiring trough's.

Which style of door wiring harness do you have? The rubber type with the plug connector type or just the rubber boot? if you got the connector, try unplugging all of them. Also, unplug the radio completely, it could be shorting out too. If not that, try unplugging the bcm on the rear cab wall.

I will try re/re as many connectors as I can. One thing I do do from time to time is clean the engine with degreaser and a hose. I did this about a week ago, could be on to something. Thanks, I will update.

Well tonight I pulled the back seat out to get to the BCM unit behind the seat. It is the unit that controls all the keyless functions. The door triggers are wired into that box, but I could not seem to find anything obvious wrong with it. I every pulled the box appart to see the circut board inside. Put it back together and everything works except for the damn door triggers.

It has to be a bad connector somewhere. I also disconnected the wires to the main computer a few times to see if there was maybe any corrosion in there, but that did nothing.

I know there are some diodes used with the door triggers, not sure where I might find that. I am also not sure if there are any connectors in the passenger kick panel area to look at. I am just about done trying to fix on my own. I hate to have to take it to the dealer, I know damn well it will be an expesive fix due to the trouble shooting time required.

Last chance for help.........thanks for all the ideas so far.

cop on my back - PM me your email address, and I'll send you some PDF documents of the workshop manual that may help diagnose the problem.
