Changing guage clusters

I want to put a FX4 guage cluster into my '07 STX that doesnt even have a TACH!! I'm fully aware of how to physically change out the clusters, what I need to know is if its a plug and play application, or if it will even work at all. Thanks in advance for the input.

yes you can unbolt and unplug the stx cluster and plug in and bolt in the fx4, but then you need to take a little trip down to ford with it so they can adjust your milage, that or get a cluster that has close to the same but over your milage then swap them when it gets to that exact milage hahaha

You might want to find a dealership that will reprogram the cluster mileage for you before you buy one. Most dealerships will not do it. I went through this and eventually sold the FX4 cluster I bought for my truck...

Is it an easy process to get it reprogrammed? I just bought a xlt cluster with a tach and when it finally gets here, I plan on doing the swap and getting it reprogrammed.

I don't understand why my truck came with a tach... like the chrome rims and cruise... along with the powered drive seat. However, I didn't pay for it, nor was it on the window sticker. I get some extra bargins for less. I dunno who was working on my truck... but they gave me the best XL ever.

This has been covered a lot of times here man.

1. the install is soooooo easy, the harness plugs right into the cluster.

2. Its is easy to get your truck PCM programmed, and it runs about $100 or less.

3. If you can find a Dealer that is willing to program miles into your cluster then go for it! It should run less than $100 also. (unless the mileage on the cluster matches your truck, then you dont have to)

OHH PS! Before anyone else E-mails me about buying the cluster, YOU MUST HAVE A 2006 OR 2007 F-150!!! It wont work in the 2004-2005. Thats what Ford told me.

i seen a 07 fx4 cluster on ebay, so i called my dealer today about programing the cluster. 50 bucks, but they cant adjust the mileage. is this true or is he blowing smoke? my truck has 5500 miles on it, so i do wanna void my warranty and what not. he told me my only option is to buy one from for for 311 bucks, is that reasonable for a new cluster?

Interesting... I always thought the mileage was stored on the PCM?

Few questions??

anyone changed out a cluster and had the stealership flash the cluster with your current mileage??

Anyone not get it flashed, and it had your actual mileage??

Is the mileage stored in the cluster or in the PCM??

06 & 07 clusters are inter-changeable??

Straight plug-n-play after have the mileage programmed on it?

I change one out and had the dealer program it for my truck, the dealer could not change the mileage. They had to send it to Ford for a core swap. Best to find one around your mileage, this is what I did. Also the 2007 and up have been change. They might not work with the older trucks.

if you're thinking of cheating milage (someone has to post a disclaimer), if carfax or DMV finds any inconsistencies in your mileage records from stops at Jiffy lube, Dealership work, etc your vin will be flagged, and I'm sure the cluster will be identified.

i just wanted a FX4 in dsg, but i couldnt find one in 3 states , so now i gotta make mine a clone but that is a good point, no one is gonna buy a truck that has a new cluster in or has been swapped unless they have the documents to actually prove the "real" mileage. (like having the ford dealer do it all, dont wanna lose my warranty any quicker)
