Has anyone gotten the "As Built" data flashed into the cluster or the PCM on the truck??

If so how did it work, was the cluster in the truck, or do the have a rack they can power the cluster on??

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Just got off the phone with local Ford dealership.... This is what the service manager/writer told me...

If you have an XL,XLT,STX,FX4, or LARIAT and you want to swap it for any of the other model cluster from 2004-2008 it can ONLY be done at Ford. If you go through ford it comes for your specific year.

The dealership said they cannot "Flash/Program" any cluster. They do cluster swaps through an authorized Ford Service Center who takes the VIN for your truck, pulls your "As-Built" data and the recorded mileage from your local dealership and programs the new "upgraded" cluster with the required info. The cluster after being programmed is then overnighted to the local dealership and ready to go into your truck.

The problem with that.. If i want an Fx4 cluster in my XLT, i have to pay a core charge for not returning an FX4 cluster and they will not accept the XLT cluster or an FX4 from a junk yard as a core return. So you get stiffed the $300 core charge and the $300ish for the cluster... Not really worth it...

So how are some of you guys able to buy a cluster online with the mileage over your current but close and then wait and install it with no problems?? Again, probably another Ford way to scam extra money from us all.

I even asked him about the code for the keyless entry pad, and he said the only way to get it is to come in and have the code pulled from the VSM. I then explained to him it's on a sticker on the VCM behind the backseat. He was needless to say at a loss for words... So is this cluster situation just Ford pulling our chains and can actually be done?? And if it can be done, it must be done legally since mileage tampering is illegal...

chime in one and all...

When I had mine done the dealer programed it. I would check with another dealer. It sounds like to me he is talking about changing the mileage. I was told by my dealer that swapping cores is the only way to change the mileage. Hope this help.

Anyone in CA had luck going from an XLT cluster to an FX4 one??

This is quite confusing, everyone and Ford are saying different things, but I've kinda learned to trust the guys here over a Ford tech at the local shop.

gauge cluster swaps

Well I`ll put my two cents worth in.....the beginning of this year I bought a slightly used 06 Screw....it was brought up from the States....a requirement of our Ministry of Transportation and Transport Canada is the Dash`s have to be "Canadianized" .....they ordered an XLT dash from Ford...called me a week later to install it....I sat around having a Coffee while they swapped them out...got in and drove home..looked down to see Kilometers ,Kilometers on odometer exactly converted from Miles but Farenheit on Thermometer....all this from a "Non-Ford" Dealership ....I was told the info is stored in the PCM and when you install the Dash it just inputs into the Info screen....

On my 02 SD, you could change the dash to metric with a few strategic pushes of the trip meter. Dont know if the 04+ are the same?

1. the install is soooooo easy, the harness plugs right into the cluster.

2. Its is easy to get your truck PCM programmed, and it runs about $100 or less.

3. If you can find a Dealer that is willing to program miles into your cluster then go for it! It should run less than $100 also. (unless the mileage on the cluster matches your truck, then you dont have to)

OHH PS! Before anyone else E-mails me about buying the cluster, YOU MUST HAVE A 2006 OR 2007 F-150!!! It wont work in the 2004-2005. Thats what Ford told me.
So the cluster out of an o7 Larait won't work in my 05 ?

I've just got off the phone with multiple southern California San Diego area dealerships and NOT 1, NOT 1 has the slightest clue what I'm talking about doing when i ask the service dept, the parts dept or a tech.

The basic answer is no that cannot be done.. I'm starting to believe that they just have no clue and don't want to figure it out..

HAS ANYONE IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA DONE THIS!!!

FX4 cluster into an XLT...

We all know the harness is the same, if the mileage is the same and does not have to be programmed, how hard is it to do? Do i just simply lug it in when the mileage matches and have the truck flashed so it will recognize the new cluster?

I've seen some of you guys out there with this done, chime in with any advice if you have this mod done...

Iv called 3 dealers in my area (minnesota) and non of them will do it due to the milage concerns. they did say if i had a cluster that had the EXACT same mileage then i could get it reflashed and installed but they dont know if it will work or not. there are alot of hoops to jump through that im debating just giving up this project for a while.
