LOL at all this misinformation in this thread..

I wonder how many people talking about turbos have actually had turbo vehicles.

I know I have personally had 5....

Also 10psi and these 5.4's cant handle it? I have 12psi for I dont even know how long now..

Does anyone know what maps will work with our engines? Hardly any. I put together a spreadsheet of a turbo setup, the MSRP on the turbo alone is $3k, its a 88mm turbo. But its map works while stile having low and top end at 8psi while still having the abilty to go to 15psi. If i could squeeze that in the front of the engine it would be cake to plumb. But i don't have that kind of cash so i can't do it. Oh well.

I wonder why ford mounts the turbo right on top of the 6.0PSD.

An 88 series turbo would be overkill if your running low boost. You won't hit the sweet spot on a big turbo until 25psi and it would be laggy.I'd go with a 6776 dual ball bearing turbo for $1300.There are V6's making 750 hp with 6776's and it will spool way quicker than a 88.That way you can run a tighter torque converter. You won't push the 6776 very hard at 15psi either. The key to more boost is more octane. You could either run racing fuel or alcohol injection to get more boost. That's one reason the STS kit has a mild 7-9 psi tune, they are running 91-93 octane.I don't think anyone knows how much boost a 04-08 F150 with stock internals can take with more octane. It would take some good tuning with a wide band to find out.
Also to run more boost than the STS kit you will probably need a 255 lph fuel pump.
My cars can run 15psi of boost on 93 octane pump gas.But I run 26 psi on 93 octane with alcohol injection. To see what 26psi is like click on the got boost thingy in my signature. It's hard on tires and it can be a handful. With the right combo turbo lag is non existant.Lag plus the co$t is why I'm trying to steer you away from an 88 turbo.

Anyone running above 10psi on these motors without dropping compression or going forged is playing with fire. Factory equipped supercharged/turbocharged gas cars and trucks typically come with 8.8:1 compression or lower for good reason. It's called Effective Compression Ratio. At 9.8:1 (for Triton 5.4's), you've got to be extra careful with boost.

A handy chart:

From the chart, top end boost without detonation is about 8 psi. Naturally it depends on the motor design, fuel, timing, etc. But at 12 psi, you're effective compression is somewhere around 13.5:1 on the Triton, or a compression gain of ~50% over stock.

Guess there really isnt anything stealth about that, but you DID win the race by default.

That was the ONLY compressor map that filled the whole range of the motor. A lot of the smaller turbos were way off the left past the turbo map and then the right most you wouldn't have any efficiency. This map actually put the 78% efficient mark right where our engines make the most tq. I ran the numbers and that is what worked.

Turbos rock! I love the sound of my turbos spooling up. It brings a smile to my face.
