Are batteries covered under warranty? I always thought they were like brake pads and were not.
Batteries should indeed be covered. Then again, it may vary by dealer. I know that my dealer here will cover it. I bought my truck in June '06 and have had the same experience with having to wait a minute or two in order to jump start it. I know that I could get another OEM battery, but I'd rather go with a Optima Yello Top. Especially with the alarm, stereo, etc...

The OEM in mine died at 35,954... lucky I got a replacement.

Then that one died too last week.

No more! I bought a Optima Red Top D34/78.
Awesome battery!

quick question for you all:

my dad's 2008 KR F150 doesnt even have 1200 miles on it yet and the battery has died 3 or 4 times now. Is it just a dud battery from the factory? he thinks it might be the remote starter and that it was installed wrong or something. I say he should just get a new battery. What do you think?

I would check to see if anything is pulling power to kill it-is it completly dead or does a jump start fix it. Something may be getting left on to kill it

With the onset of another miserable winter my 05 with 15K is starting to show signs of battery loss when it sits out all day while I am hunting. After reading this thread today I called the dealership to see if the oem battery is covered under warranty, they told me 1 year or 12K miles. Figured as much but they did suggest a battery tender since it sits all week in the garage, said it would help the life expentency of any battery.

Guess I'll be buying a new Optima Red top with a battery tender.

Better call them back and ask them to try again, your bumper to bumper warranty covers the battery. I know because I am on my 3rd battery in my 05.

jump start fixes it right away, it fires right up when we attach the cables to my truck or our escape. but randomly at times it just turns over once and stops, then wont do it anymore. w/e its going into the dealer tomorrow to find the problem and fix under warranty.

Wow did they do something different with the batterys or what.

The one in my 99 was about like Raouls...It was the original one and I finally replaced it about 2 months before I got rid of it, which was about 8 months ago. It probably didnt even need it, it was just starting to get a little slow at start up and I had a new one laying around...that thing sat many a night with the doors wide open and a 1300+ watt stereo playing full tilt off just the battery--lots of recharges from doing that for too long too Hell when I traded the truck I stuck it back in and it turned over pretty good.

I noticed right when I got my 06 that it seems to crank over fairly slow though. Musta done something different with the batterys in the new one ehh. Im going to be pissed if I have to replace mine any time soon after my last one lasted so long.

I had thought that mine was acting funny. The Edge tuner was not starting properly and it seemed to be turning over a little slower than before. I ignored it. Christmas night when I was leaving mom's house the truck started slowly. I drove home with the radio off, heater off, and low beams only (no fogs). I was hoping to give the battery a better chance to recharge, the drive was only about 10 minutes so no luck. The next day I went to pick a friend up at the airport and sure enough the truck would not start. It was 38* and raining, perfect time to be working on the truck. To make matters worse the battery did not have enough voltage to kick over the relay to turn the lights off when the doors is closed. So I had to crawl under the dash to pull the fuse, no power so I could not move the seat back and did I mention it was raining and cold? Called someone to give me a jump and let the truck run for well over an hour. It lasted a week starting fine until it sat for two days an then would not start. Jumped it again and drove straight to a parts store and replaced it with a 1000CA 850 CCA version. Once all of this started I set one of the Edge displays to voltage to watch what was going on. Now that I have changed batteries I consistently get .4-.5 more volts on the gauge.

I expected the battery would of at least lasted 4 years.
I was in the auto repair business for a LONG time, and I can tell you out of plenty of experience, if you get 3+ years out of a battery, you are doing good.

I am LUCKY in that my OE battery in my Ranger lasted almost 6 years, and the OE battery in the F150 is still kicking strong.

I am on the 4th battery in the 2000 Focus, and the 3rd in the 2001 Saturn.

From what I noticed back when I dealt with this, if you let the battery charge down too far, and stay down, they want to stay that way, so go out and drive your truck around at LEAST once a week, or disconnect the battery terminals and keep the battery clean so it can't discharge via the crud on the battery top...

You might consider a deep cycle / abuse resistant type of battery like an RV battery, or an Optima that are designed for more infrequent use...

You guys are not the only ones. I have 45,000 miles on my '05 and I don't think the battery will make it through this winter. The past two mornings it has been 18 and 14 degrees and my truck started a little slower than normal. Its definitely putting a strain on that battery.

Well im here to tell batteries just arnt worth a darn anymore! My father had a 1988 ford tauras w/factory battery still installed up to the day he traded the car off for his broncho. That was in 1999. Myself after just enduring a "Dead Battery" and being stuck home with no way to get anywhere for three days, my truck is an 04' w/14000 miles on it so it wasnt the running or operating time that killed mine it was mearly the sitting time that killed mine! <<<someone please make this a$& hole quit blowing smoke in my face!!!! LOL
