Who can hook me up with a fix....

Well, today it happened. I went to the gas station, rolled down the windows so the truck wouldn't be hot inside the truck, finished the fillup, rolled up all 4 windows and POP! The front passenger window made a horrific sound and fell into the door. I took the panel and related stuff off and snapped a small pair of vise grips on the track to keep the window up temporarily.

Can anyone hook me up on what's involved to fix it or have a schematic I can look at? I was on my way to work so I didn't have long to check the inner workings out, but I know the cable looked like spaghetti in there.

Oh, and it's not under warranty anymore.

Thanks, guys.

Sounds like a window regulator if you take it to ford it will cost around 200-250 to get fixed

buy the part and ill put it in for you thursday when im in town.

I agree sounds like the mechanical linkage to the window, not the motor itself.

I dont know for sure if its the cable or the scissor type lift, but either way you will want to replace the mechanical linkage to the window (window regulator)

EDIT:
Or send me an email, and ill send you the diagrams needed

SECOND EDIT:

Looks like a cable type lift, its possible the cable jumped off its guide, but more then likely the cable snapped

Don't roll down the windows

I leave my truck on with the a/c on when filling up. Reduces starter and window regulator wear, lol.

Is it going to back fire through the fuel line into the fuel tank?

I've seen cars/trucks/suvs/motorcycles blow up or catch on fire because the nutcase left the engine running. Infact, the gas station right down my road had a car catch on fire because of this like 3 months ago... and they had their two daughters inside... suffice to say they both died because of the father's stupidity.

So you could be the next victim. I think there are like 500 of these fires a day all across America...

Whats the direct cause? I never learned what causes the fire to happen.

Hot catalytic converter's around gasoline fumes can cause problem's. Also watch out for anything that may cause static electricity around the pump's when fueling.

182,500 a year? Hmmmm...that seems just a bit much, maybe 500 a year. The ONLY time I have ever heard of a car catching fire why at idle is if it was in tall grass and the caught the grass on fire.

Stealth, I had the same thing happen on my driver's side window about a year ago. Leaving work the window just fell all the way down, brought it in to the dealer and they fixed it in warranty. They said it was the regulator, this is a known problem with these truck's. I make sure I carry a few large trash bag's and some duct tape just in case it happen's again!

Yeah, I just threw out my large trash bag last week. Good thing it's not raining, though the vise grip fix will work for now. I've only used that window about 10 times in less than 3 years. Not good efficiency. Too bad the warranty's out.

Pat, I don't think I'll be getting the regulator by thurdsday, but I don't know. I'm at work right now. I think I'll call my ase ford mechanic bud (His name is Pat too) so he can price one for me. He gets parts for cheap. But that damn panel was a beyotch to get back on in the 4:00 Texas heat on the driveway!!!
