i have some testing i did... not the best way to do it, but it gives an idea

Volant Intake

Intake Idle temps: 118-120
Intake Cruise Temps: 40 mph 96-98

0-60 Runs Outside temp 89 F.

1st: 8.77
2nd: 8.74
3rd: 8.74

S&B intake

Intake Idle temps: 98-100
Intake Cruise Temps: 40 mph 94-96

0-60 Runs Outside temp 85-89 F.

1st: 8.33
2nd: 8.32
3rd: 8.32

the truck did seem to pull harder... All runs were on lvl 1 same setting for both intake brands

That's a noticeable difference in run temperature and a decent difference in runs.

Nice, weazel.

I think it assisted.

What did you use to measure the temps & runs?

i used my edge... hold on i am talking about... do you think the first initial run with the volant w/ outside temp of 89. Compare to the S&B run w/ outside temp of 85-89, with having a 4 degree diff made a difference or that the intake it self running cooler made a diff..

well this changes everything man, the pic you showed me last night doesnt have that restrictive spot on it and yes that will probably cause the flow to drop off past 4000, now the pic you showed me last night

that doesnt have the smaller diamater tubing in that 2" section and it appears that the turns are sharper which makes me believe that the box wasnt the only thing they upgraded

that section were the diameter is smaller for like 2" will cause turbulance in the tube at higher rpms, just how a straight through muffler still muffles the sound and cause backpreasure. my vote is either get the new volant or the s&b

What does the outside air temperature reading for the S&B mean? Did it fluctuate between 85 and 89 or was that a typo? That's quite a fluctuation given it was a run from 0-60MPH only....

when i say outside temp... it the temp the truck thermometer read at for temp. when i tested the volant, it was a constant 89, when i tested the S&B it was changing from 85-89 outside... make sense

Let's say, for arguement's sake, the outside air temperature was identical or damn near identical [89-degrees]; then it'd only leave the intake itself running cooler that made the difference in the 0-60 times. The S&B intake doesn't conduct warm/hot engine compartment heat and dissipates warm/hot engine compartment heat better than the Volant

Read: better quality build.

Did these numbers assist the S&B in reading almost one-half second off the 0-60 times in comparison to the Volant? Sure. Was this the only reason? Absolutely not.

Let me just add that my comments above are based on your facts and figures.

If you were to get ten different people to do an identical test, you'd most probably get ten diferring numbers.... and not neccessarily going the way of the S&B.

Anyway, it's 2:40AM here at Myrtle Beach, SC and I've been online researching different things for close to 4hrs.

That much internet time can never be healthy.

Night.
