I have an 04 fx4 with the flow thru and I wanted to change it to a column shifter and throw a third seat in the front. I know a lot of people on the site have gone the other way from a column to a flow thru. Is this even possible, does my fx4 have the option for a column shifter. Do i need to buy a new dash kit, shifter cable etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do not want to trade it in. Also, I would be willing to give away the flow thru console to somebody, or maybe work out a trade for the 20 seat.

 

From what Ive read on here you will need to swap out the dash. Im sure you can find someone to do the swap with you. I would do it if you lived close and everything was close in color.

 

Where are you located? Id be willing to trade if you were local.

Im in San Jose CA. And captainmorgan you gave me hope when I was reading your thread about wanting to do the same thing but I guess you never figured it out either. I am pretty positive that it'll work out as long as our factory models that come with the floor shifter still have the option for a shifter on the column. Otherwise, there would be no gearing on the column to put a shifter, which would make it into a much harder task.

 

I have the grey leather interior, but the flow thru console itself is grey and black.

 

I would be willing to do the swap. I have teh grey interior. But I'm not sure if its the same grey fromaan xlt to an fx4. Ill get some pics of mine so you can see if the color matches.

The change will work. The entire dash assemblies will need to be swapped. I think that directly swapping the pieces from one truck to another wouldn't require any additionl pieces to be bought.

 

You might expect to change carpet or buy replacment carpet since under that monster of a console is alot of holes. It been a while since I had my console out so it might not be as bad as I remember. Just expect to do that.

There was a long ago project where someone here converted to a flow through console and they had to pull out the entire dash. Hopefully someone here will remember who it was. It could answer a bunch of questions for you.

It's going to be a heck of a project but not impossible. Just remember to keep lots of notes and pics for reference.

Thanks for allthe responses guys, and Impact I think your talking about FX4&Excursion...does nebody have any idea how I could talk to him because I did notice he had some schematics for the flow thru console. I was wondering if he had schematics from the column as well.
