Anyone seen the Australian Boss 290 motor?

I got curious about what was offered in Australia for motors. So after a little searching, I found http://www.fpv.com.au.

Granted this is their version of SVT, but why do these guys get the cool engines? They rate their HP in kilowatts, but after doing the conversion, the 5.4 4v australian Boss 290 is rated at 389 HP (crank I think) and comes with a T-56 6 speed stick, or a 6 speed auto with tiptronic shifting.

I want one of these babies in my F-150. imagine what it could do with a Procharger supercharger also. it's also comforting to see that the 6 speed can handle that kind of power. makes me think the 09 f-150 with a 6 speed is truly a reality.

I couldn't tell, but is the Boss 290 just the N/A version of the GT 500 KR 500 supercharged 5.4?

i want a ford falcon so bad...they would sell like hotcakes in the US. Ford needs another performance vehicle that can be bought by the average american.

that's what the Mustang is. The GT is $25k for reasonable options and about $30k loaded. I admit though that a nice 4 door would be good to have also

well i meant other than the mustang....to give people more option. and plus like you said...it would be nice to have a average priced, perofmrance sedan.

They wouldn't be able to GIVE them away. Maybe 1 in 10 truck buyers would be interested in these things.

how can you even justify that that statement...

what does "truck buyers" have anything to do with the selling of a Ford Falcon?
i forgot that people who buy trucks is directly related to people who buy a average priced performance sedan

My bad, I was referring only to the Falcon UTE which looks like a Ranchero. Since this is a truck site, that's what I thought was being referred to.

The Falcon car would probably not sell very well either. NO ONE is willing to pay BMW/MB prices & receive a Ford for that price. It would have to be priced similarly to the Fusion to be competitive. Since it uses more expensive EVERYTHING, I seriously doubt Ford (which is just about bankrupt at this point) can afford to take a chance on a vehicle that they have never sold in the USA.

the Falcon comes in some like 12 different variations varrying from like 28-46 K

so i think it would sell pretty well in the lower trim levels. and then the higher ones..idk.

but why wouldnt people pay bmw prices....they do for a saleen...or a gt500...some even go all out for a ford GT

i mean of course in certain aspects its a entirely different comparison but in this case..not.

I admit the UTE is butt ugly. although, look at the Honda Ridgeline. Soccer moms want a truck, but also want mini-van qualities. the UTE kinda does both. It's still rwd though. The sedans are very nice. I absolutely love the body lines.

The drivetrain and some of the body panels are the same as the U.S. cars. They just tweak them. Majority of the parts are the same as what we use.

There is just one heck of a mark-up out there. Their cost of living is outrageous. I saw a few F250's running $60,000 to $75,000 USED

honestly, if given the choice between a 300 HP Mustang GT or a 389 HP 4 door Falcon, I would take the Falcon in a heartbeat. and gladly pay the $5k or so difference (just a guess). I don't think they'd be priced like a BMW/Mercedes.

You can answer this question by looking at sales of the Lincoln MKLT. It's the exact same truck as a F-150 save styling & trim changes. There isn't a Lincoln dealer in North America able to get full asking price for one since it's pretty much the same truck as a F-150 yet costs $10000 more. I've seen MKLT's on the local lots with $12000 REBATE signs plastered all over them.

This is not me bad mouthing Ford. It is quite a true statement that 90% of the buying public WILL NOT pay a premium for ANYTHING Ford makes. The GT is the single only vehicle I can think of in recent memory that Ford is able to get full sticker for. EVERY other vehicle with the blue oval on it requires a healthy rebate to close the sale.

that's really not true man. I see the Lincoln LT on the road alot out here, and the dealerships in my area have no problem selling the normal F-150 for ~$40,000 and the superduties for $50,000 plus.

a more urban area might have a harder time pushing the Fords, but the fairly rural area I live in has high demand for 4x4 trucks...and the dealer almost always gets his premium.

btw, I priced out a Lincoln with the same options as my FX4 luxury package and it was only $2,000 more than the suggested MSRP that my truck had. Mine said $41,000 and the Lincoln barely broke $43,000. I didn't pay that, but that definetaly ain't no $10k differance

People would be willing to pay BMW prices for a Ford if they thought they were getting a BMW quality car. People pay BMW prices for Lincoln and those are just Fords with more leather, fake wood and a little more insulation.

If you can prove its worth the money, people will pay.

the BOSS290 has the same heads as 03-04 cobras, Mach1's, marauders, and aviators. it's a lerge exhaust port and improved intake port version of the tumble port from 99-01.

the Shelby GT500 has heads that flow like race cars. intake ports designed for 5.4 litres. ~315 cfm intake stock and ~370 ported by Al.
