Poll: Daytime Running Lights, Yea, Nay?
Poll: Daytime Running Lights, Yea, Nay?
Ok, here's the scoop.
They're the law in Canada and several European countries. GM vehicles have them as standard in North America. The pros are that they make vehicles more visible and therefore the roads safer. The cons are that, well basically just some people don't like them. Anyway, I don't think there's been a poll on this yet and having gotten involved in a recent debate about these I thought a poll would be a good idea.
Here's the debate:

There are others, but no poll that I could find, so:
Daytime Running lights: A good idea?
Yea
Nay

As you've stated, it makes vehicles more visible. So not only from an insurance standpoint, you're safer, but no one wants the hassle of having some idiot that didn't see you make a left turn while facing you as you're barreling down a road at 50mph.
That happened to me once about 10 years ago...the first thing my insurance company asked me was if I had my headlights on. I had mine on so I said yes. That doesn't change the fact that the lady that hit me was drunk at the time and totally 100% at fault, they just wanted to be sure that I did everything I could to prevent a possible accident...which I did.
My truck has the Auto lamp function -- where a sensor will determine whether it's dark out and turn the lights on automatically. Personally, I like my lights on a little bit sooner than it decides they should be turned on, so I handle mine manually. Now if they came on automatically, I'd be all for it.

Ok, I thought I was going to be able to set up an official poll. I read that you could do that when you start a thread but I guess not.
Anyone have any idea how to do that?

Nay. Unless its hazy, I personally see no safety benefit to DRL.
Also, there is a very slight MPG usage from running the headlights at all times. GM has gotten away from that and uses an aux light to do the same thing. Probably didnt want the headlights burning out any quicker.
