Question Do they steal factory NAV, or just aftermarket?

I'm curious. Obviously thieves are looking for high-priced expensive aftermarket radio/nav equipment to steal, or any other obvious items they can see inside that may be of value.

My question is, has anyone had trouble with the factory NAV unit being stolen? Or is there a reason they would only want pricey aftermarket stuff and not a factory unit, even NAV?

At least insurance is taking care of it... but $500 for that hassle sucks.

This is the reason I keep my interior looking stock. No CDs on the visor, no aftermarket head unit, no Oakley's on the dash; nothing to tempt a theif to break in.
I went with a PIE Adapter and ran it through the glove box to keep my stuff hidden.

yeah, but aren't the factory radios in those, better than the ones on these trucks?

What are all those switches below the revers parking aid?

The facotry nav is probably going to be a bit harder to steal than the aftermarket, but most thiefs aren't smart enough or big enough ford fans to be able to tell the difference between the OEM nav and aftermarket.

Those switches look like a siren/light switch panel. Am I correct?

Nope. Most of the ones I've seen were early to mid 90's accords and such. The people who are stealing these cars for the radios obviously have some outlet to sell them. With cars like these (and our trucks) that sell thousands and thousands of vehicles, there is a larger market to sell used replacement radios. I'm not saying people are necessarily going to start stealing our trucks for the factory radios, just trying to make the point that people do steal lots of factory radios as well.

Some people steal specific things that they are proficient at taking and have a market to sell lots of them. On the other hand, crackheads will steal absolutely anything they can sell or trade for drugs. One of my buddies had his truck broken into a half dozen times over a couple months; they would smash his window just to get the change (even just a few cents) out of his cupholders. Finally, he just stopped locking the doors and took everything of value out of the truck every day.

I guess who is doing the stealing and what they take depend on where you live.

That is a good idea in theory, but in the end you would only be hurting yourself since you would have really cut down on your deck's ability to dissipate heat. It would just result in fryiong your HU.

You could wire a second battery in for you ralarm, but most security systems worth the keyring they hang the remote from have a capacitor backup system. It got to the point that thieves seen an alarm in a car and the first thing they would do is crawl under the car and reach up to cut the wires at the battery. Sadly, better systems make for smarter thieves. I like the sleep in my truck with a baseball bat theft deterrent system. But the wife wont let me....haha

Know a guy a from a few years back that had a high dollar Chevy SUV with a ton of stereo equipment. I mean custom cabinets, the whole works. He competed in shows and won several trophies.

The coolest thing about his setup is that it looked completely stock from the outside. He even had stock wheels and tires. No outside mods.

The back windows had limo tint, and the equipment that couldn't be installed in various hiding spots had the same color carpet and vinyl as the stock seats and floor. When he went to a show or wanted to show off, he just popped a few pieces of velcro and there it was. Lights, video and the whole works.

But, it got stolen and stripped of all of the equipment. He was pretty sure it was someone he knew that did it. It wasn't a random hit. Someone knew he had the equipment in the truck.

So, now he has a nice system for his own listening pleasure, and tells no one what's in it.

I just leave the key in my truck in hopes if someone does break in, they will just take the whole damn truck.

If you are going to steal my stuff, atleast do it up right so I can get a new one.
