I dont know what head unit Styx has, but I have a Kenwood HU w/ touch screen and it has a 4 digit security code that I programmed into it so when it loses power you have to know the code to unlock it. I guess a thief could go thru 9,999 codes till they got it right though. But it would take some time.

its got a 4 digit security code that needs to be put in after being disconnected to work... and beings that I picked the code.. I'm the only one that can use the head unit after it is powered up again. not only that but its straped down from behind to the dash and firewall

I kinda understand what you're sayin', but, you had to work how many hours to make the money to buy the headunit that you now don't have. The thief only took a minute to steal the useless-to-him item. He'll just go steal another one, no big deal.

I am 100% convinced that no alarm, jimmy jammer or any such "you fear a break in so buy me and you'll be ok" device works. So you have an alarm and they break in, your alarm buzzes and flashes and they pop the hood and rip off the battery cable. At the end of it all, you lost your stuff, you paid for an alarm that didn't do anything deterrent wise and worst of all is the pissed off, pit in the stomach feeling you have. From then on you'll second guess where you leave your truck and always wonder if someone will break in or not. Does having an alarm get you over that feeling? Not me, been down this road 4 times and there's only one thing I'd like to do to really deter thieves, fry them crispy or give them the shock of a lifetime. I'd love to have a live wire wired up and fry the bastards. But then I'd go to jail cause god forbid we injure a criminal. Just my pissy opinion and I'm sure there are some who disagree and that's cool with me, but I've paid over $1,000 on alarms over the years and still ended up with broken in/stolen vehicles, so alarms are not the silver bullet.

The higher end alarms with fuel cut off and such are really only good at trying to keep your vehicle from being stolen. An alarm alone will not stop someone from getting into your truck if there is something inside that they want. Key less doors and shatter proof glass might work. I know that 3M makes a film that you can put over your home windows that makes them shatter proof so maybe 3M could make some of that film for vehicles.
Sorry about the truck.

You mean the rubber tire irons, plastic baseball bats and 20 backup KITTs?

Well I just got off the phone with the Insurance guy and the local repair shop, total cost to fix the door and lock is $587. Insurance is going to cover that plus my radio, harness, install kit, and since I installed the unit myself the claims adjuster is going to call around and get a price for a shop to install the radio and I will get covered for that. All that minus my $500 deductible! I hate thiefs!

man i hate to hear news like this especailly since i have the pioneer z1 in my truck also. i dont know what i would do if it was stolen, took a few months and begging and pleading with the wifey before she let me buy it and then the following week she brought me a viper alarm to protect the truck. but if i was to even catch someone near my truck with bad intentions because if noone sees what i do to them they will get their last ride in the back to some deserted place where i would leave the body. the tonneu covers would be the perfect hears for a thief

Someone either on this forum or another suggested when you install your radip, wrap the headunit with packing tap with about 4 ft left haning off, and when you install it, wrap the tap around a metal bar under the dash. It may not stop them, but it will slow them down. Make sure you pull the top of the dash off and wrap the tape only after you install the headunit.

thats kinda how I have mine secured only instead of paking tape I have steel, secured to the back of the hu and then to the metal dash frame

It would be nice to know if you could put this under your window tint.

I have seen it on a flat pain of glass where it was hit with a baseball bat and all it did was spider web but it didnt break in. That with no key holes and a good alarm would make it pretty hard to break into.

Sorry to hear that, they did the same thing to me at the mall, with enough pressure they can break the c Clamp and the plastic that holds the keylock.

Here were the results

I got the supercrew Lt Handle rear driver, know i have no key hole, and i also lost my keypad, but atleast i did a quick resolve. Sucks that there bastards out there like that.

Could you possibly wire a second battery (Lawn Mower battery) to have an alarm on? Like hid in a door panel? And, wired from something to keep it charged?
