I shall but, after tracking my switch this morning, it appears that it's scheduled for Saturday delivery -- and I had it delivered to my office. In short, I'll get it Monday.

I may give it a whirl some night this week if I feel like it. Otherwise, it'll be next weekend.

Luke... you twerp. LOL!

I have all the parts and pieces in hand (got the switch today)... I'm planning on trying it this coming weekend but, I think that the wife may have other plans - i.e. going to see her parents.

Naturally, I'd rather have my ********* pierced with toothpicks but, being a good little husband, I'll go see my inlaws. I mean, the girl did come and pick me up at 1am 1.5 hours away when my injectors stuck this past weekend... ya know?

It's installed and works like a charm!!!!

The only tweak to my plan was the magnet... the magnet that I purchased simply wasn't strong enough to work over the distance and through the materials that it needed to to work.

That said, I hacked a *strong* refrig magnet and mounted it in place. It's FLAWLESS now.

I'm VeRy glad that I went with the Reed Switch! Thanks again to all who helped!

Pics will be forth coming but, it probably won't happen until the weekend. Plus, you're just going to get finished pics as I didn't document it as I went along -- didn't have the time to do it.

Woulda been easier with the merc switch, but, oh well.... there's enough of that crap in the water table already. And a lot of 'tards because of it. Nasty stuff.

Big magnet, eh? - Now your CC's AND your Compass are at risk! LOL!

Good job.

Cheers

I used:
Reed Switch CH406-ND $5.32
Magnet CH413-ND $3.38
Above made by Cherry and purchased from Digi-Key. The reed switch was mounted adjacent to the latch opening on the lid. The magnet was mounted directly under the reed switch position underneath the silver trim piece that surrounds the opening (contains the cup holders on rearward section of console). It was necessary to trim the 'mounting' tabs off of both the reed switch and the magnet. The switch and magnet are held in place with epoxy. I used Oznium white LED's (Prewired Superflux 4 Chip LEDs - White) in the lid. Power comes from the console 12V outlet. LiEDs light up when lid is raised <1/2 inch. All in all very stealth installation. It took a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon. Needed to use the Dremel tool a bit to get rid of some plastic where the magnet mounts...since it is under the trim piece you can't see it. Way cool mod...kudo's to the group!!

Nearly precisely what I did. The magnet simply wasn't strong enough to trigger mine though.

I really should've taken some pics of my install... now that it's all back together and functional, I'm not nearly as apt to pull it back apart for a kodak moment. Sorry!

I'll just explain it out with a picture or two -- that is, if I can remember to take a few.

I'll see you sometime soon I'm sure, Luke. I'll point and talk.

Well, it's been about 6 months or so since this thread has seen daylight. Thought I'd let some of the n00bs check it out.
