Converting Column shift to center console shift?

Here is the deal; i am having issues finding an f-150 in my area that i like with the center console and interegated floor shifter.

My question is would it be possible to take a 4x4 f-150, take the column shifter out, and install a center console with the floor shifter? I have looked both style shifters over and it seems like a hell of a swap if it could be done. I was just wondering if it is possible, if anyone has done it, and how much it would roughly cost.

Thanks!! :santa:

There's been a few people that have done it. Some replaced the entire dash along with console. Search for FX4&Harley and FX4&Excursion. Back about November 05 there were some long posts with pics.

If you're thinking about this swap, make sure the truck has the E.S.O.F. 4wd system, otherwise that stick coming up thru the floor tends to get in the way.

is it possible to make a "custom" center console and put the floor shifter in it. I ask because I have the mechanical 4x4...

I guess you could, givin enough time and money you could do any thing, but why? In your case, you might be better off just using an XLT console, they have the same lid as the flow thru console and about 50% more interior storage space. They also fit with the 4x4 floor shift just fine. Other members have done this conversion with the manual 4x4, just can't remember who.

I knoe anything is possible with money but I am just wondering if I can by the actual shifter and fab something to slide it and run the cable through the body...anybody know if this is possible? How much is the actual shifter?

I didnt even think about using an XLT console, but i bet with an XLT console and a flow through, you would have enough peiece to make it functional and look right edward

I know you will have to do a dash swap, because the ones with the flow threw console are shaped differently. And then theres the hole where the shifter used to be... Unless you get a new steering column...

Here's a pic from some time ago:

Looks like you could do this with the floor 4x4 shifters, guessing it's gonna be tight though.

Check these, long and some great pics, last one has some schematics:
