Went on a little Missouri road trip today; Lotsa pictures!

I got bored so I decided to set out on a little road trip around Saint Joseph, Missouri where I can currently stationed.

I started out by travelling on the parkway system in Saint Joseph and up to King Hill

I read somewhere that King Hill is the highest point in the Missouri River Bottoms. It overlooks the Saint Joseph Stockyards and is marked by a huge American flag.

The flag can usually be seen from pretty much anywhere on the south side of the city and from Kansas. I see it everytime I get on 36 Highway in Kansas on my commute home. It is, of course, at half staff right now.

Then I picked a road and started following it, and picked another road and started follow it which lead to another road I followed. I was well back into the Missouri River Bluffs when I came upon the Bluffwoods Conservation Area. I saw some rocks and thought to myself, "Hey! I should see if I can park ontop of some of those!"

I saw some more I was going to try to get ontop of but some other folks came around and I decided trying to drive over rocks in a public use area with the public about wouldn't be the best plan.

Finally I happened upon a empty coal train parked in a siding and thought to myself, "Dude! I want a picture with the train!" So I did.

But before I could find a good place to get a good picture with it the train started to move. Luckily, I caught it at a crossing.

I decided to try to trail the train for a while. I followed the mile-long beast all the way back to Saint Joseph; we went through the Stockyards, downtown, until finally he came to another stop on the northern side of the city.

So, that was my boring day. Enjoy.

No, it is an empty coal train... It was for the Kansas City Power and Light, or for Iatan, which is another power plant. It is headed back to Lincoln, and then back to the Powder River Mines.

Thanks for all the great words, folks! Maybe next weekend I'll try to go get more depending on how bad it gets out.
