Front Brake Pad Change (Brake Dust ...)

OK ... I've about had it with BRAKE DUST!! That, along with my dismal 13.5 MPG avg, has almost pushed my to trade this truck and say "good-bye" to Ford!

BUT, before I go to that extreme, I think I'm going to try out Akebono’s advanced ProACT™ Ceramic Disc Pads on my front brakes.

My question .... for those that have changed their pads for this reason, did you just do a "pad slap" (just changed the pads & that's it) or did you have to resurface the rotors, etc.??

I have about 11,500 miles on my FX4 ... I don't have issues with the rotors, just the outrageous amounts of brake dust up front.

I think its just certain pads on certain f150's. I had 2 different STX's (both 04's) and the brake dust was horrible. But the one I have now has no brake dust problems at all. NONE! So maybe take the truck into the dealership and have them put the pads from an 07 on your truck...if they are willing. Just a suggestion

I just replaced the pads on the front of my 05 when I put new wheels and tires on. I replaced the stock pads with the Akebono’s advanced ProACT™ Ceramics, so far so good. No dust and seem to work great.

Just another option, the ceramic pads available at Advanced Auto Parts were about $70 total for the front and rear. No dust problem like the OEM pads so far.

I changed pads at 13,000, Wagner Thermo Quiets. No problems.

I installed the Akebono pads all the way around on my 2005, after Ford did the Service bulletin fix on the calipers and rotors at 11,000 miles.......I have 19000 miles now, and couldn't be happier, smooth, quiet, powerful, and NO DUST. My 2004 BMW brakes were so dirty I couldn't drive around the block without getting the wheels black. Switched to the Akebono Euros with the same great results, the wheels stay clean and I think they stop better as well.........

You were going to trade in a vehicle because of brake dust?

I got tired of the brake dust, dirty after every trip. I put on KleenWheels. No more brake dust. Period. My rims stay clean as long as the truck does. No difference in brake temps. Cost less than pads by quite a bit.
Only fit stock type rims.

I also don't miss seeing my rotors with rust colored calipers. The flat black finish just makes my rims show better.

There is a SB on brakes, but it has nothing to do with dust.
I just had mine done, and by the time I got home, the brake dust was everwhere.
I had removed my KleenWheels as I didn't want some mechanic bending them up. They are very delicate off the truck.
If your truck is covered by the SB, do get it done. My brakes are better than ever with the new calipers, pads, rotors, wheel bearings.
But the brake dust is exactly the same.

I don't recall anyone saying the TSB had anything to do with eliminating dust........I mentioned that I put the Akebonos on AFTER the TSB, just to be clear. Glad you like your Kleenwheels.
