06 F150 vs 07 Ram

I know the title has been beaten to death.

A friend of mine had his 05 F150 beaten by someone around his neighborhood with a brick. $4100 damage and he has a 07 Dodge Ram for a rental.
So he stopped by and we went for a little drag.
The ram is a 5.7 HEMI Scab 4x4
My truck is a 5.4 Lariat Scab 4x4 with some mods. Roush exhaust, Volant intake, and a Troyer tuner set on 91 performance.
Not sure what kind of HP numbers I have, but stock is 300 and the ram has 345 stock.
First race got the jump and stayed 3/4 to a full truck length infront of him the whole time.
The second race I started in 2nd(don't ask how :o ) and by the time I shifted it back into drive he had a 3/4 truck length on me, but I stayed right with him.

Now the question. Should I be proud of my truck on the way it ran?

I mean I don't have that many miles on the 91 performance tune. Probably only about 70 miles. So maybe adaptive needs a little more time.
I think he has the truck for 8 days so maybe will have to give it another go.

To ME....what would really be interesting is to do the same thing pulling a 5000lb boat.....These are Trucks.....Ford can make them fast, or make them strong, they chose to make them strong, and it's up to us if we want to change it. Personally, I'm impressed you were able to stay with him.

Good race but bottom line you had to mod to beat him. Race stock for stock. Like stated this arent race trucks.

Impressive...

you are heavier and your engine gives up 45 hp and 10 ftlbs of torque, stock for stock...with your mods, you were able to get up to at least his stock rating and a little more, because you're able to keep up and/or beat him at a heavier weight...weight kills HP!

I bet 3/4 length is more of a reaction time difference then horsepower difference. The trucks are probably about dead even. Im impressed you were able to keep up with him in second. You put my truck in second and it feels like retard mode.

I still DON'T understand this obsession with racing Dodges, Nissans, etc... Ford offers the most durable, dependable and in many cases the most luxurious trucks on the market. All the other guys can offer is a big engine on a little bitty car-like frame with a cheapo interior.

I don't know of anyone who bought their Dodge, Nissan, Toyota or Chevy because it was fast. They bought it because they couldn't afford a Ford!

Good job, you wanted to find out if your truck could keep up and it did. Good kill. Even with the mods.
I'm starting to realize something I think I'm going to need a really big sticker on my truck that says - I won't race because my truck is slow but ha ha it cost more, is better built has a better interior, can pull things better etc. - Well maybe I have to think of something else to say thats a really big sentence.

OK Im lost with statements like this...

If the truck has more power, than it will obviously be faster and be strong. I dont see how you can say the Ram may have more power and be faster, but I can tow more, it just doesnt make sense. I dont think the Ram has any issues towing. If you think the 5.4 is more powerful or "stronger" than the 345HP Hemi than I'd like to know(based on facts) how that is true. Again, Id rather rely on cold hard facts rather than biased opinions.

So if you spend about $1000 in mods you'll be able to keep up with a Ram.

I'm pretty sure the "bottom line" is who wins the race, right? At least here we are talking about his specific truck against a specific RAM... not what it took to get there, but how that race played out.

In that sense, the bottom line is that the RAM lost to HIS truck the way HE has it.

good job!

BTW< up to what speed did you race? and what gearing do you have?

That's the thing. I spent just over $1000 for the mods I have.

I just read about others here spanking Dodge's, Nissan's, and Chev's, with the same mods, but I just barely got by.
Its not an "obsession", its a comparison.
Just trying to figure out how the mods I have compare to different trucks.
Your right about the F150 getting beat, without the mods I have.

So I guess the intake and tuner does help out.

One other thing. The F150 handle's and rides way better then any Ram or Titan I have been in. It even handle's and rides a little better then my 03 Sierra Denali. But I loved the Quadrasteer in that truck

Hiya Smoke!

It's the Volant, buddy - it's killing your top end - well documented. Coulda walked him for sure with a 3.25" AF1.

My Bro-in-law still has his '03 Denali with Quadra-queer - it's always breaking down. But you have to respect that 6.0 Litre - it really flies. That is, in between PCM changes - 3 & counting. Carries a spare now

Good kill. Man... 600ft of frontage - nice!

Cheers
Bubba

Really? I didn't know that. Thanks

That's why I didn't keep mine. I knew it was a matter of time(little time) that 4 wheel steer would break down and cost me big time!
