Once a year on oil (Mobil 1), and every 6 months on the filter (K&N). Have used the same routine on the last 3 vehicles and never have drained out filthy or burnt smelling oil. Co-worker still driving my last truck (96 F150). I put 85,000 on it and he just told me it had hit 120,000 and still running strong. I put about 8.000 miles on my Harley each year and only change oil halfway thru the riding season and at the end. To each his own but every 1000 to 2000 is pure overkill.

Is anyone not using synthetic or full synthetic oil? Castrol 5W20 says it meets all of Ford specs for oil.

Also the Fram oil filter reference book has 2 different oil filters for the 5.4L - one apparently has standard and one metric threads? I bought the PH-8 Fram (one of the 2 choices) and it looks right, just have to wait till I need it and see.

MIne every 3 months or 5000 miles which ever comes first. Using Motorcraft Oil Filter and draining the Motorcraft oil (I got prepaid maintenance) and replacing by 5W20 Lucas Synthetic Oil and transfer the Motorcraft oil to Minivan.

My FX4 every 3,000 miles (which takes me 5 months). It only cost me $21.00 at the dealership.

My Bimmer uses full synthetic as factory fill, and has scheduled oil changes every 15,000 miles, but I have it done early every 7,500 miles.

please save your truck, Fram is just garbage, the ends of the filter are cardboard which gets soggy with oil and then disenigrates in your engine! there is a reason why they sell them cheaply, maybe b.c they are just that, CHEAP

I did every 5k for first 20k then every 4k for up to present. Always motorcraft 5w20 and new MCraft filter (FL-820s)

And btw i never do time limit, i just go by mileage. I think time is only an issue if you dont drive it for weeks at a time. I drive daily.

this reminds me time to oil K&N and gettin close to oil/rotate at 36k (im at 34,8--)

Oh and i read in a book that this guy drove his work truck on the high way with extreem mileage and the dealer asked him how many times he changed his oil sine the truck was about 6 months old with 70,000 miles on it, and he said i change my oil every friday

5000 miles for me looks like it is going to be every 9.5 months, only have 2100 miles on the truck since I got it 4 months ago. The "commute" from my spot in my garage to my spot at work is 1.1 miles, but I come home for lunch so work costs me 4.4 miles a day.

Its that too long?

That would mean he changed his oil about ever 2,917 miles. Sounds ok to me.

Every 3k miles, which works out to about every three months. I don't use synthetic oil.

I was about to warn AirJason that he should not say anything about even having seen a Fram oil filter, let alone actually use one, because it would bring out the anti-Fram zealots. But, I guess I was too late.

I used Mobil One for my last oil change. I am planning on going 5000 miles before a change. My truck is about to hit 3000 miles since the last change and I am itching to change it. I just can't get out of the every 3000 miles mode. When my grandfather owned his service station, he changed his oil every 1000-1500 miles. You can say it is a waste of money/oil all you want, but his cars have always last him well over 400,000 miles, all original. The only reason he ever gets a new car is because his is just plain worn out.

Right now every 5k or 6 months. I never have to worry about the latter. You can change it as early as you like though. Some may see it as a waste of money, but oil is a cheap investment. I think I may switch to mobil 1 and start doing the oil changes myself soon. Do we use the Motorcraft FL1 filters? If so those are huge. When I drove my Dakota lots of people switched to those because they fit and were much larger than the stock filter.
