New Remote Start Code CA680 w/ Car Link

Anyone following this thread:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...t=remote+start

I installed my Alarm/Remote Start today and gotta say WOW!!!! This is my first remote start and the first time I ever installed an alarm (let alone a remote start).

I got the system at KCAutosound.com and Travis had it all pre-wired and ready to go for me. It was a breeze. I had a couple of minor problems, but called Travis up and he walked me right through it. Then he waited for me to wire up the rest of it and walked me through the programming.

This alarm is the coolest and works with the Keyless entry keypad...gotta love that. I also got the car link which is super cool. Travis tested through his dealer access and started my truck from Kansas City. WOW!

As others have said...yes, if you have a CA550 or 670, you can probably just update the remote with the 680 dot matrix and it should work fine.

I would definitely recommend the Code CA680 w/ Car Link for our trucks and DEFINITELY recommend Travis and KCAutosound.com

Back before remote starts got big I built one using a Alpine Alarm in 92. The Alpine had 3 buttons arm, truck release, and aux. I took the aux wire and set it to pulse for like 2 seconds. Using 3 cheap wal-mart relays I wired them up to engage the ignition, then hit the starter, and then release the starter all on that 2 second pulse. It was genius and cost like $15 when remote start units where $300+. I just used it in the winter though with my heater on when i left the car.

Back to your post though, What sensors did you get installed? Shock and voltage change is pretty standard but I don't trust them. Glass break and pressure change is great cause that almost a certain intrusion. Tilt is great incase someone tries to jack your truck and take your wheels or tow your ride.

My old alpine had a pretty much everything plus this cool radar sensor that detected movement around the vehicle. I could leave the windows down and if you stuck your hand inside it would beep or sound depending on the range. Only thing I didn't get on it was the 2 way pager.

I'm going to check out that site. Thanks for the post! You'll really love that setup come winter!

Call me cheap, I bet he's a nice guy but I'm always looking for a deal. I can't afford to be thinking like that bry, lol. But one day when I can afford to you bet I will. Anyways, what is so special about the 25.00 Ford prewiring, and what else is needed besides the kit? I read you guys were talking about modules to bypass the PATS system, anymore info? By the way, does the CodeAlarm 670 have the glass break & pressure change, as well as tilt?

I have the outboard shock sensor module (because the internal sensor has had some issues), the remote start/PATS by-pass module and the Car Link module. I thought about the tilt module...might still get it though.

It took me the afternoon to install, only because I've never installed one and I wanted to take my time doing it. Now, it would only take me about an hour or two.

The minor problems I had was I couldn't find one wire (looking in the wrong spot) and initial program start up (I think it was just OE). lol

Josiah...I know the feeling, I (we) have a 2 income household, so it's easier for me to spend money for stuff, I guess. About the $25 for the pre-wire is definitely worth it (although Travis waived this for me) because he gets rid all the unnecessary wires and has the ones needed for our trucks all laid out for you...makes it a TON easier.

All you need is the system and the remote start/PATS by-pass module.

It will be easy...his instructions are easy to follow. If you come accross a snag, just call him up...he'll walk you through it.

Thanks for the info!

How difficult was it finding a good spot for the modules? How big is the dot matrix remote? The picture on his site makes it look very large.

How does this compare to other systems? I really like the idea of it being integrated with the keypad. That GPS thing is really cool, I would enjoy calling that when I am out of range

His instructions tell you where to mount the brain. The other modules are small and can just zip tie to the wire harness behind the dash.

The remote is not that big...it's slightly larger, but definitely as big as the picture makes it look.

The only systems I've had are stock ones or basic systems from KARR...this is the brand my ford dealer uses. Anyway, my experience with alrams/remote starts are very limited. What I liked though is when I was sitting in the living room last night programming the 2 way remote...I could hear that I was arming/disarming it. With my the KARR that the dealer put on my truck, I had to literally get in line of sight (at the kitchen window) to arm or disarm.

There's other cool features (not sure if other alarms/RS have this) but, you can set it to automatically remote start your truck if the temp outside reaches 0 degrees. This is cool for you cold climate folks.

I'm just really impressed with this system.

Is there an option to set it to start if your battery voltage goes below a specified value? This would do the same thing as the temperature setting you mentioned I guess...

My battery would always die in my 02 when it got cold, that would stop it. I had a Prestige alarm....never again.

I will definately be ordering from that site due to the service aspect. I had been thinking about a Viper with most of the same features.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure about the voltage drop feature...it doesn't mention it in the manual. You can set a timer for it though.

I was also thinking about the Viper 791x...I liked this one better.

Travis (KC Autosound) has the best customer service I have come accross in years. Like I said before, you can get the stuff cheaper other places, but he is a guy that I would like his business to succeed. Plus, you get the warranty with him.
