Yep - I installed the Ford Gold system (remote start and alarm) last year. Couldn't be happier with it.

My only complaint setting the sensitivity of the shock sensor for the alarm. It seems to be all or nothing for some reason. Either the alarm goes off if the wind blows the wrong way, or you can beat the truck down with a sledge and get nothing...I don't blame the unit for that though. I think it has something to do with where and how I mounted it.

Other than that, it's been flawless since day one.

I've had mine for over 2 years, not a single problem with it. Usually what is more important with any system is the "quality" of the installation!

I have the same system with the same problem, I think it where I mounted the brain, it said not to mount it anything solid, to mount it to a big wiring harness... I zip tied it to the steering wheel column suport... it goes off everytime I park in direct sun on a hot day, just lowered the settings on it today....

Yes , I highly recommend this system, just don't mount the brain to anything solid...

Thats great to hear. I was looking at aftermarket systems...but realized I didnt want to carry 2 remotes all the time. How much did the dealer charge you for install, or did you do it yourself? I installed a factory alarm/keyless entry myself in my 99 F-150. Lots of wires...is any part of the gold system plug and play?

If I'm not mistaken. You get two new remotes with the kit and they take place of the factory remote. It will still work but not the alarm. I had the viper 791vx installed in mine and it's the only remote I carry.

Same here (self-install). Also used the same site to download the instructions. There isn't much of anything I remember being plug and play. I think after it was all said in done, for the options I installed, I ended up splicing 30+ wires in the truck. Took a solid day to complete because every connection was done by the book (Wire cut, splice soldered in, covered with adhesive-lined heat shrink, etc.).

F150Truck'in - What you mentioned the mounting makes sense - Mine is on a solid surface also (firewall). Maybe I should try to move it for better results.

I bought mine through eBay. Don't remember the price but it was one helluva deal.

You get 2 new 4 button remotes and don't need the factory remotes at all....
you can still use the factory remote if needed, they will arm and disarm the system with lock and unlock, but wiil not start the truck... no button for that..

I've been all over the chart with sensitivity, without much luck. I always had a hunch that it had something to do with mounting.

Thanks for the info fellas, one last question: Ive got the electronic temp controls. It seems to default to auto mode. Is there anyway to get it to stay on defrost mode? What about heated seats, I think they also default to off once the truck is turned off.
