Remote Start

but its not a big deal to control them with the system if you want....

The nice thing about the Powercode systems (I'm sure there are others out there that do this also) is when the alarm sounds, and you have it programmed to use the horn along with the siren, it's not the standard honk...[pause]...honk...[pause]... pattern that you usually hear and everyone ignores. It's sort of a random "someone's at the wheel pounding the **** outta the horn" type of pattern. Definately get's my neighbors attention.

Also, if you have a Factory Key Pad (not the stick on), this is the only system on the market (that I know of) that will arm and disarm with the pad, some other will arm, but will go into alarm state when you use the pad to open the truck...
this is very nice if your keys are in the truck (hunting, beach, ect.) or in the house.....

What would be better, the Ford Remote Start System w/ Alarm or the Viper 791XV??? I know the Viper has a screen that says everything, but I like how the Ford system disarms with the keypad like someone mentioned earlier. Any suggestions??

I believe the higher model Code Alarm units have the disarm input, (CA-970 rings a bell) which makes sense because Code makes all the systems for Ford. Not sure about Viper. I've never dealt with any of their products.
All you really need to look for is an input that will disarm the security with a 12v signal. All the Ford system does is read 12v from the unlock button to disarm the system. The keypad/door button also arms the system in a similar fashion with a separate input.

I've been wanting to get a remote start for my truck. I have a few questions about them maybe you guys can help with.
The systems (I'm considering):
1. Ford Factory system
2. Code CA670 (as seen in this thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...t=remote+start)
3. Viper 791XV
4. Add on with current KARR 4040a (a dealer upgrade to the factory keyless entry system).
Now, which should I go with? I know nothing about alarms, but think I could install one. I know some about car audio installs (wiring, etc.), but I know this is a completely different animal (car alarms). After seeing the wiring diagram posted, it looks somewhat easy. With that wiring diagram being so specific to our trucks, is there a need to use a voltimeter to check wires?
I don't care if I have the LCD fob of the Code and Viper alarms (although it's kinda cool feature). The 2-way feature and ability to call with the cell phone (car-link on the code CA670) to disarm/arm and initiate the remote start feature is especially cool. I would like to keep the ability to utilize the keypad for arming and disarming (never thought I would use that thing so much).
I don't know much about the KARR system I have on there now except it's a basic alarm system. I did talk to the dealer a couple of months after I go the truck about adding a remote start to the existing KARR system, but they said they had to put an extra key under the dash for it and I didn't really like that idea. Also, if I get the factory remote start, will it work with this KARR system or does this system did to come out completely? I mean this system does utilize the factory keyless entry sytem.
Sorry for such a long post, but hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction. I hate being such a noob about things. lol

I ordered the new Code CA680 (with the dot matrix fob) and the ever cool Car-Link system, which you can call and arm/disarm and remote start with your cell phone. Also, activate your alarm if a thief is driving away in your truck (it stays on until you disarm it)...cool feature.
Plus, with him prewiring the system for our trucks, the step-by-step instructions provided and great customer & tech support...you can't beat it.

If it does, Hell, depend on price, I may upgrade... I would love to have two way remote....

He charges $280 for the CA680 (so new, it's not on Ebay yet), $25 for the pre-wire set-up, which he waived for me (not sure if I'm suppose to tell you that), the Car-Link is $175 and the PKF3 transponder module was $43.
Yeah, this can be had on Ebay for cheaper, but after talking to Travis for an hour on the phone and his friendly advice and support...that's the type of guy you want to keep in business, so I decided to give him my business.
I bought the CA670 off of eBay for $147.77. I also bought the Car Link on eBay for $70.00 and the pats module from ford parts for $23.53.
I installed it this weekend and it is awesome! The Car Link is sweet and I can't wait to use it other than just testing it. I fly alot and I can't wait for my first trip back, when I land on the tarmac, I am going to call my truck so it will start cooling down for me. By the time I get there, it will be much cooler. Same with the winter, call it so it's warm, that way I don't freeze my butt off and the ice will be gone off my windsheild before I am even there. This would have come in handy on a recent vacation of mine. We were late to the airport and I had to hurry and park my truck and run. After I was on the plane, I couldn't remember if I locked it or not after I got my bag out. It would have been sweet to call it and lock it again just to be safe.
I wired up my door keypad to the system so I don't lose the functionality of it. I can also continue using the factory remote if I wanted to. I don't have to carry around two remotes (as mentioned earlier), the new remote replaces it. All in all, I am very happy and am going to look into getting the window module and possibly another shock sensor and glass break sensor. I don't think I need those things, but if they are available, then why not?
I need to look into hooking up my seat heaters to the remote start, it would have to be on a switch though(so I can shut it off in the summer when I don't need it).
The only difference I could see between the CA670 and the CA680 was the LCD remote on the 670 and the dot matrix remote on the 680, is there more than that?

I do wish he would come down in his prices, but his customer and tech support is top notch. He even said he would warranty the system as though he installed it...can't get that on Ebay. He did give me a little more of a discount, but I'll leave that up to him to disclose.
The CA680 fob is dot matrix and has a rubber protective covering. Also, the CA680 went back to a manual setting on the sensor (don't know the correct terms) unlike the CA670 is pre-set (or something).
All in all, I'm happy with my purchase.
