Question on engine oil
i was wondering if it would help with engine wear to switch from the 5w-20 to a 5w-30 since its thicker also is synthetic a better choice as well for engine wear? i change my oil every 5k since the truck is a daily driver and doesnt go off road (much ) and i've never towed anything with it and the most weight its ever had in the bed was 620lbs..
Thanks!
Thanks!

Would those of you who claim these new tight tolerances please cite your sources? I think you're full of it.
I've run 5W-30 since the 800 mile mark, and I have 34K now with NO problems. I've done the same thing with my wife's Taurus, which now has 96K, and no ticking, smoking, or ANY problems.
Go learn about the C.A.F.E. standards, and you'll see why Ford and Honda go for the 5W-20 crap.
I'm not saying you shouldn't run 5W-20, but 5W-30 DOES provide more protection, especially during these warmer months.
Here's a good read.

Wow, i just got done reading all of those links and now I've got a headache! I ran nothing but Mobil 1 5w-30 in my V-10 for 5 years and got 175,000 trouble free miles out of the engine. I changed the oil and filter every 5000 miles and I could see inside of the valve cover that threre wasn't any gumming up or coking at all. How well does the Motorcraft 5w-20 oil hold up as far as gumming up or coking the engine? I plan on keeping this truck for 4-5 years also and want to make sure I get the best protection I can get.

Although, I did like this guy's post -

Honda, Ford, and Chrysler are all on the 5w20 bandwagon now, and there has been no evidence put forth that they have changed bearing clearances in engines that had previously been spec'd for heavier oils.
NB: Fuchs in Europe and the Pacific Rim recommends their 0w20 for any "modern" engine, regardless of what weight the OEM calls for.
