I've had my truck since Oct '05 and never knew about this little compartment. I took a look at it this morning, and it's rather small...

The last thing I'd ever put in there would be my carry weapon. I carry concealed 99% of the time; the other 1% is when I'm in places where it's against the law for me to carry: schools, bars, gov't places, etc. When I need my weapon I don't have time to clear & lift the arm rest, fight with the seat and pull it out of it's holster. I need it somewhere accessable.

As stated above... if you have a weapon DO NOT TOUCH IT WHEN GETTING PULLED OVER!!! When and/or if the officer asks if you have any drugs and/or weapons say yes. If you volunteer that info before being asked your car/truck will end up getting searched. Although I know my cars & trucks are clean, a lot of the time I don't have the extra 30 min's it's going to take for them to get backup, run my permits, serial numbers & search for anything else.

I think the 'carry weapon' idea is out of hand. The area under the seat is not a good choice to carry a gun, it is possibly a good place to put one when you are at the beach, going into a goverment building, etc. You can convert it to a lockable compartment in about five minutes with a drill, a metal bolt and a small padlock.
It is a handy place to toss wallet, pocket junk, etc. when you walk on the beach.
It would not be great for quick access, or everyday use.
It's great for storing a tow strap, a medical kit.
Or for an amp in a regular cab.

It's charm is that most teenage thugs don't know it's there, so when they break your window and riffle the glove box they don't know it's there.
Cops do know it's there.

I don't have the 40 20 40, I have a console..... so where can I hide my drugs and guns!?!?!?!?!
You can pop the rear cup holders up and then pull the AC vents section down ... there's a little room in there.

As for the front cup holders on the flow-through console, they are part of the top unit including the shifter. There's no opening beneath just the cup holders. Now, you can pull up that top console portion, but there's very little room in there!

Cool, now I have a place to hide my Rap CDs when I'm driving 2 miles an hour so everybody sees me or when I'm riding dirty!

Do you really know that I don't know? Or do I know that you don't know that I really do know? Or do I not know what I don't know and you don't know what I don't know and we both don't really know what we both don't know?

I had found out about this spot like right when I got my truck. Couldnt figure out how to post on here back then (stupid aol spam-blocker). That spot has some room to it for storage, and im pretty sure I posted something about it a while ago. I use it for radio storage (keep a scanner wired in the truck for work). I put out an alert about this storage spot to PD up here in ny (where I work), so its out & about. Theres another spot in the truck (04 Lariat supercrew), that ill tell ya about. If you pull off the wood-grain covering over the radio a/c etc, you can access to the dash. Theres 2 screws up top holding that black "matt" in. Take those out, and you got room for stuff. Presently, thats where my siren is mounted, and my xm antenna & modulator for the XM MY-fi. Seems like alot of stuff fits into that are also.

I had found this when I bought the truck. Its a good spot to install something so its out of the way (amp radio cb sub etc). The only problem I have now is I cant seem to get the bottom of the seat back into the bracket.
