can a programmer effect the cam phaser?

I had a problem with my truck in the end of March and the dealer blamed it on the programmer. I had taken the programmer out about 9 months before the problem. Another guy had the same problem. We both had the cam phaser replaced and now i have another guy that had the same problem and he had to get the computer replaced and the cam phaser. Do you think this has something to do with the power programmer or is it the excuse they are using??

If they're replacing the phasers because they're noisy, no.

If you're getting check engine lights and/or rough running problems because the cam timing isn't advancing or retarding properly, maybe. But that's grasping for straws.

What the dealer is actually saying is the power programmer is making the cam phasers break and it sometimes can ruin the computer. Is that just a line or is there some truth to that?

Nope. Find another dealer if they're telling you that crap.

I did not think there was any truth to that but I wanted to know what you all think.

Not true, just got my truck back on Tuesday for the camphaser. I don't have the TSB number off hand (so it could be different), but they replaced the intake manifold, some valve cover gaskets, timing assembly, timing chain, some other things.. and the noise is gone. The Reciept referenced a TSB number... runs great.

The fact that that Ford doesn't address just the cam phaser noise anymore, is that more understandable?

They JUST did the repair on my old truck, after I traded it in. Who told you they don't do the repair anymore?

They don't do it just for noise. Let me repeat, they don't do it just for noise. OK, If you didn't get that, they don't do it just for noise.

If it has mechanical failure, then yes they will change it.

Did I mention they don't do it just for noise?

The vast majority of phasers are replaced for noise. I replaced the passenger's side on my truck, and I think I'm gonna do the driver's side pretty soon cause it's a little noisy. The TSB itself states replacement for noise, and I've yet to see a cam phaser fail to where it causes a running problem, only noises.

Exactly, they only replaced it because it was so damn noisy.
