Ordered some lights...

Hey guys...now before anyone says anything about "ricey" it was my choice and wanted to give it a try. Anyways..i bought 4 of these 12inch cathodes in red to put behind my grille and possibly wheel wells or some sort, not sure yet. Im thinking of mounting two 12's behind the CW grille. Any ideas on how to mount? They were only $24 so its not a big investment if they dont look good.

NICEEE im going to do this. I think streetglow has wheel well LED's that can bend and stuff so you can fit them in your wheel well

I am going to waterproof the 2 clear ones I ordered and use them as lights underneath my plastic bedrails, god forbid they flex/break while wheeling. Can anyone think of a brace I can use to support them from breaking? Very nice idea and thanks, I just ordered led rows for about $20 each from superbrightleds.com or something and they're pretty bright but I know these will be much brighter and longer.

I've been SERIOUSLY considering something similar to what you described Josiah.... I was thinking something along this line though:

https://ssl.adhost.com/noveltylights...pid=262&step=4

They are out of stock on the clear right now but, based on emails, they should have it in stock VERY soon.

You thinking about a toggle switch or something like a normally closed plunger or something?

Not sure what a closed plunger is but I plan to find an always on hot lead back there (possibly from the trailer controller) and use a switch back there. My only concerns are whether or not the bedrails will block too much light to reach the middle of the bed if that makes sense. I just looked at that link RP, those were what I was looking for beforehand but never found anything cheap, I'm canceling my order as they may break. Hope they let me. Thanks for the link RP.

Edit for the second time:
Nvm RP, I can't wait for the clear ones to come in stock. I will have 2 tubes underneath each side, 4 altogether.

Normally closed was just a switch... maybe mount it such that, when the tailgate opens, the switch opens and thus, light.

I think I'm going to tie mine to the dome lighting so I have light with the dome light (hence, unlocked doors).

I've watched this stuff come and go out of stock three times now and haven't bought it... in fact, dzervit and I have been scheming on this mod for probably over a year now...

I'm going to do it this summer though... as soon as it's back in stock...

When the tailgate is open is a great idea, I have the door stop/switch that will turn off when depressed and turn on when not, perfect. I think I'll throw in a master switch that somehow overrides that so it can be up and still work. Great idea, I too have been considering this ever since Myst has shown what he did with his tonneau, however I don't much care for those particular lights. Good luck RP, I'll keep an eye out.

Rock pick, actually i toyed around with a set of rope lights i had, and in my closed garage, lights off, they were pretty dim to be working under. I would recomend a true led tube light, or neon or something.

I have this picture on my computer, that i saw off of this site in someone's gallery. This is the look i am wanting to achieve, but i dont even have my bed cover yet, so to me its pointless.

You could also wire them into the 3rd brake light (flood lights up there) so when you open a door, or turn the dimmer switch all the way up to turn on cabin, and cargo lights, the bed ones would come on too. So many possibilities on how and where to wire them

Oh and if you look closely in the picture, those are led's in a plastic tubing, you can find them on ebay all wired for cheap.

Hmm lets see

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/9-0-Inch-White-L...QQcmdZViewItem

That ebay listers pics suck, I can't see worth a damn. I will post pics of my setup as they come in, I had them mailed priority (the quicker of the two, I think it was priority) from the cathode tube guy above.

Pat -- thanks for the suggestion bud. In all honesty, I hadn't really thought about the light level not being adequate enough... from the way it looks, you are probably dead on right with your assessment. Thank you for this VERY important tidbit that I hadn't considered...

Maybe I do need to look at a LED tube or similar...

I have been wanting to put some white neons or other type of light under my dash on both the driver and passenger side. Not for show, more for functionality as light for when I need to see something down by my feet. As in if I am at a toll booth at night and drop my quarters on the carpet I could just flip a switch band easily be able to quickly find my quarters.
