Shudder at take-off
Shudder at take-off
I have a 2005 F150 scab 4X2 with a 5.4 and 3.73 limited slip rear end and when taking off from a dead stop (normally) I feel a shudder and vibration that starts about 1-2 seconds into the take-off and it feels much worse with a load in it (600lbs). Ford put a shim kit in each leafspring saying there was a TSB out on this problem and it did not fix a thing, the problem is still there. After the take-off there is no shudder or vibration, it's fine.
Does anyone have any idea or experienced this problem?

mark, there is a tsb to replace the rear differential clutches with a redesigned clutch, usually more noticeable when cold accelerating and slightly turning.. this is a common occurance. se your dealer it's a one day repair.
The same shudder is there reguardless of straight take-off or while turning. The problem is magnified with the increase of weight in the truck.
It's going in today and I will advise as to Fords solution, if any.

Tell the Ford dealer to look into the tranny pump(internal).
My 06 had 3000 miles on it and it started to shutter during 1st to 2nd gear change.
The transmission pump flange that attaches to the tranny housing was not ground down flat. So oil was able to get through the flange and was able to suck air into the system.
It was fixed a while back and I have not had any issue's thus far.

Definately let us know what the outcome of this is. I have this as well, intermittently between 1-2 shifts.
Im thinking of going to a gear shop that I trust first (with smokestoneF150's info) and have them find the source of the problem, then go to Ford for a resolution.

Clutch packs in the rear need replacing. There is also a tsb about the emergency breaks. The energency brake is a drum, the drum is getting filled with dirt and dust causing the shoes to contact the drum causing a shutter.
As of today (3/17) my dealer still has the truck (5 days). Spoke with the service manager and the mechanic working on it and they say they are calling the next level up at Ford on Monday to see what can be done.
They had to add 700 lbs. in salt bags to feel the shudder at it's worst, I can feel it with an empty truck and a full tank of HIGH priced gas.
My shudder does not come at shift change, mine starts about 1 to 2 seconds after take off and lasts about 2 - 2.5 seconds. After that all is fine, even at speeds of 75 mph.
While on vacation a dealer in Florida put in a shim kit per TSB 05-13-1 and it did not fix anything. It seemed to worsen the shudder when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st gear when stopping.
Will keep all advised to the progress or fix.

There is no loss of power when this happens, it just feels like something is out of balance for a few seconds then all is fine. We'll see what the higher ups on food chain in Detroit have to tomorrow.
