Ceramic brake problem

I have gone to 2 diifernt auto parts stores. Lordco and Napa. I first purchased rear/front Raybestos ceramic pads for both front and rear. I then took them to my ford dealership to have them installed. After they pulled the old brakes off, they told me I had the wrong ones. I had checked Raybestos website the night before and I had the right part #'s. I did have the right ones. But I saw the old rear ones and the clips (a 3 point clip for the rear brakes) and they were different from the ceramic ones (had a small 3 point clip). I then went to a second parts store and looked at the ones they had, and it was the same thing. Differnt clip.

Has anyone had this problem or have any suggetions.

Hah, I have these installed right now, Raybestos. They are on the rear, I am having extreme squealing but I can't tell if it's the front or rear, haven't taken the time to check. Brake dust is hard to tell on the rears too. I had the exact same problem as you, you need to check your Vin#, there are different parts for your Vin#, go to your local Checkers/Kragen's/Autozone and have them input your truck into the system and ask them to find out if it needs Vin verification, it does. It has to do with the 11th vin #. I had the exact problem and had to take them back and get the correct ones. It is the small 3 or 4 prong clips that pop into the calipers that don't fit. Hope I've helped.

thanks for the info Josiah. DO you happen to have the part # for those Raybestos? The website has a find brake pad section. says something about the 11th digit in your vin Mine has a K. That is what was went by. BTW - the ones that you got, were they ceramic?

Yes, they were ceramic. Are you saying they went by the 11th digit and you have the correct part # but it still doesn't fit? When I did my install, (there are only 2 different Raybestos brakes depending on your 11th VIN # I believe), I got the wrong one, I too have a K in the 11th spot. The wrong part was too small of a clip, I went and got the correct part for the 11th Vin # K and it had a larger clip. There is nothing larger than the Vin # "K" Raybestos, I would make sure you have the right parts, go back to the store and make sure it's the correct part number for the "K" Vin. I have an early build 2004 F-150 4x4 Lariat Supercrew, same as you. I would just order the porterfields or Akabono pads, they are both proven to have no brake dust. The akabono's are cheaper and work just as well. Here is a link to the akabono's for cheap.

Store went by the vin # orginally. Still recieved the pads with the 3 prongs that were about 3/4" in diameter. The ordignal ford pads are about 1.5 - 2" in diameter. Do you haoppen to have the actual part # for the ones you got?

I went to a couple of stores and all the ones that they said were the right ones for my truck were the small prong ones.

Thanks agian

Unfortunately I dont have the part # anymore. Like I said, I'd just get the akebono pads, I am going to be installing them as soon as they arrive.

I've got the Akebonos on my '05, front and rear. Unbelieveably nice! Powerful, and no noise or dust at all. I had them on when they did the TSB replacement of the front rotors and calipers...........and the dealer put my Akebonos pads back on instead of using the Ford stuff.......Cool. The Edge, new front brakes, rear swaybar, and Bilsteins have made my F-150 the nicest truck I've ever owned.

The part # that you need for any brand of pad will be 1011 for the front pads and 1012 for the rear pads. I had the same problem as you trying to find the correct pad.
