I can see why Ford has problems...

...Its greedy dealerships.

My 04 XLT is 18 months old with 9800 miles. The window sticker was $27,300. KBB says the trade in value is $15,000.

I like to buy a new vehicle every 18-24 months, but there is no way Im taking $15,000 for a truck that is still brand new.

I decided that I wanted to step up to 4wd and a notch or two on the trim level. I guess I will wait until 08.

american vehicles do not retain their value, period

if you want a new vehicle every couple of years, lease

its not ford specific, actually F150's hold thier value better imho than dodge's or chevy's

You also have to realize that just a few months ago Ford had priced all of the F150s at employee pricing. This effectively decreased the trade in value of all F150s for the next several years.

One cannot purchase new vehicles and fret about the depreciation of them at the same time. Purchase used vehicles or lease.

Why? . . simple, because the MSRP on my truck was $38,000 but I only paid $27,000 out the door. Now, go down to your local Mini dealer, try haggle with them and you'll find out that they simply wont. Which equates to a great re-sale value.

Hey moron, don't forget that the dealerships DONT use KBB, they use NADA. And for that matter they just follow the guide. If you don't like it, complain about the people who make the guides. It's not the dealer's fault that people don't pay near-new prices for age old 04' XLT's. Get a grip dude. Your '04 wasn't brand new 1.5 years ago. It's '06's rolling around now...

Agree with everyone here. Dealers here in my area offering 8,000 off on 06's! Heck, our Excursion stickered at 52k we paid 37k and it's now worth maybe 25k. That's 27k in depreciation from sticker in only a year and a half. These sticker prices are so inflated to begin with and no one every pays sticker on an american vehicle and I think this is another reason trade in values plummet so quickly. I just wish Ford would price their trucks towards more real world prices to mirror what most of them actually sell for. I think this would help lessen the loss of value once you drive off the lot.

Damn man, you don't have to be so harsh to him, he was jut stating he didn't like the value of his truck at the moment. You don't have to call him names.

Come on man, that wasn't necessary. I am sure you wouldn't talk like to his face. That kind of talk belongs on the ricer boards. This is supposed to be a gentlemen's site.

maybe by the time you get a New truck in 08, maybe Ford will have the F150 Hibrid out by august of 08 so they say!

another thought though, like the other guys here have said, don't BUY a truck if you get rid of it so fast, lease it and save yourself a lot of money

Well, thats just it, its not brand new anymore. It may seem that way to you, but it is now 2 model years old. Now whoever buys it has to wonder, Hmm, only 9800 miles and its traded in, whats wrong with it.

If you have been buying a new vehicle every 18-24 months in the past you would have allready seen the hit you take in the first year, I would think.

Not to hijack the thread but I bet you would be terribly suprised at what they would give you for your Excursion. I was talking to the sales manager at the dealership I use and he said the only vehicle they sell with worse resell value than the Taurus is the Excursion. My brother-in-law just bought a 03 Limited v10 4wd with 52,000 miles for $14.5K and the local Mazda dealer here just sold a 04 XLT 5.4L 4wd with 23,000 miles for $16.5K (and they had it on the lot for $18,5 for over a month). Now the PSD Excursions hold the value very well but the gas burners just don't. I really dont know unless its just the rep they have for being gas guzzlers. IMO a used Excursion is one of the better bargains out there...if I thought my wife would have been able to park it we would have bought one of them instead of her Expy.

I guess it's all in how you negotiate. I've been looking at 06 4x4 Screw 6.5' bed, and was offered $8500 off of sticker, and $16,800 for my 02 FX4 Screw with 35k miles. So, I paid $25,500 for the 02, and 4 years later $16,800 trade in. $8700 depreciation in 4 years ain't bad...
