Talking broken plug!! but got it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i ran into this as well. I was able to put the plug back in and drive it for a while. eventually i went ahead and began to try to remove it. 4 hours later and two screwdrivers and two easy outs i was able to get it out. first i removed the porcelan from one of the plugs and drilled it out to 7/16 for the easy outs to go thru. then i used a screw driver to gently pull back the outer edges away from the block. i finally got it to spin. then i took and welded an easy out to the end of a long screw driver. it was the fluted style. after working it around for what seemed as forever i was able to get it to come out. oh yay i put grease in the broke off piece first to stop the shavings. now the new set is in. man i know the feeling now. i think i actually jumped up and down a couple a times when i got it out. i will post pics of the tools monday.

Just curious... did you notice any difference from the old plugs to the new ones? Was it really worth all that effort in the end?

Any gains?

Have a banana for you efforts on getting that nasty plug out.

Ok now that you got them out whats to keep the new ones from sticking? Are you going to take them out every 15,000 miles and clean/replace them? To me its just not worth it...if I still have the truck when they NEED to be replaced I will deal with it then. But I am glad you got yours out...it shows a little enginuity goes a long way!!!

How may miles are on your truck? How bad were they rusted? Was the engine hot or cold when you did this?

Talking

ok the engine was luke warm when i started but by the time i got her out it was cold. as for a difference--only a little smoother idle. 22000 miles on her. as for keeping them from doing it again. i cleaned the holes the best i could with brakeclean and then turned the engine over to blow out the cylinders. then i put on some nickel antisieze on them. since i am a mechanic and love being one i will prolly remove them ever so often and checkand clean them. i will get some pics soon.

What I am wondering, I think it may have been discussed to some extent before, is what type of driving do you do? Do you do lots of short driving, say 5-10 minute drives most of the time? I wonder if this accounts for people having their plugs rust in the head. I have two 30 minute drives every day, so hopefully my plugs will not have much rust buildup on them, as my truck gets through the heat cycle usually every time I drive it. It was just a thought that i remember being discussed to some extent, but I would be interested to see what type of driving you do (short trips, highway, moderate lenght trips, etc.)

Thanks!

I do mostly long drives, 30 minutes each way every day....

On a side note, after letting my broken plug sit for a week in liquid wrench, it came right out.... Which sucks cause now I have on reason to pull the engine it build it up, oh well.:o

How many miles did you have when you pulled your plugs? I have 22,000 at the moment. I think I am going to do mine in the spring here pretty soon. I want to do them, but at the same time I am worried about doing them, as this is my daily driver, and can't be without it. But then again I am not sure how long I am keeping this truck, so I don't want to be stuck having to pull both heads cause I waited until I had 100,000+ to change them.....

I didn't catch that last part. Are you saying you're pulling the engine.

He was wanting to build it up, but he found the powder casted pistons rule and are good up to 2000hp.
