Any fix for the transmission clunk yet?

Haven't been here in a while, but I"m about to take my '04 supercrew FX4 back into the shop for the 3rd time. The stupid clunk! They told me to keep bringing it in to have it "greased". This only works about 3 weeks or so. Very annoying! They explained it to me as the yoke wasn't engineered long enough to the rear end............. I don't know.

I was just wondering if anyone had figured out a way to fix this or if Ford had had enough complaints to fix it.

Mine has clunked since day 1... I've lubed it up.. I've had the stealership lube it up... Nothing works..

Its not just an issue with these trucks... ALOT of mustang guys throughout the years complained about the clunk... Alot of rear wheel drive vehicles have the clunk..

I've tested it on my truck a few times.... Here's my test..

Turn off overdrive... accelerate to a certain speed.. 55-65.. and let off the gas..
When the trans starts to decelerate the truck, give it some gas... My driveshaft will clunk almost every time when I tried it..

Good luck getting rid of it.. If anyone finds a permanent fix.. POST it up!

PS.. There was a guy on here a while back that replaced his driveshaft with a carbon Fiber one.. He said the clunk was completly gone and acceleration/deceleration was smoothed out tremendously. I've also read of other people with Trans-Ams and Firebirds going to a carbon fiber and it took the clunk away...

I think it's kinda fun when mine does it. I didn't drive my truck for a week while I was out of town, and it was pretty cold that week. Got going down the road in 4th with the converter locked up, floored it to kick down going uphill and it felt like I ran over a land mine, BAM! The TSB says if you find nickel coating flaking in the slip yoke, you're supposed to replace the rear driveshaft, clean everything up, lube it and go.

I just don't get how random it is, one day it'll be fine and than a month later it'll come back a few times.

Well, truck's in the shop. Guess I'm getting tired of it. They gave me the same slop story that it needed greased and Ford didn't have a fix for the clunking. Guy told me his does it too and he doesn't do anything about it. I'd like to have put my $35k somewhere else! Also had my leather seat fixed again, second time. On the side of the drivers seat keeps getting ripped from the bar inside. And, turns out Hubby found oil leaking, but couldn't tell if it was the rear main or the trannie. My service guy again said nothing was wrong. That they used some dye to run through it? They didn't see it anywhere. Kindda makes me wonder.

Should have it back tomorrow. It'll run great for another 3 -4 weeks before the "clunk" comes back! But, she'll still blow the doors off a Hemi!
