window 98 and edge important!!!

as most of you know i have been having a problem with loading the lightning software onto my computer. i have windows 98se. jay at edge has been working with me for about a week now and this is what he has to say now......

"Ok… we played around with it and we have found the problem. The Windows registry structure is totally different. We’ll have to come out with a different version of the Lightning software for Windows 98 SE. It might take us a couple of days, or more… but we’ll get it soon. If there’s one thing that you wouldn’t mind doing, is gather a list of people that are having the problem with installing on Windows 98, and give them to me. As soon as we have a Windows 98 version, we’ll send it out to you guys first. Then, we’ll put it on the server (we have to drawing the webpage up and stuff). If you don’t get that list together, then no biggie. They will just have to find out some time that it will be put on our website later. Thanks for your help and patience so far. Without your help, this problem wouldn’t have been brought to our attention.

- Jay Wilhite"

so keep this as just a list please so i can get it to jay.....or email me direct so we don't have to worry about spam,,,,,see ya....and have fun with the edge...!

Windows 98? That's like eight years old. People still use that?

Hi.

Unfortunately, millions still use pre-WinXP operating systems.

Good post, Jim. I guess in their rush to market, they assumed a build on an XP platform would work on Win98 - we here even have problems with software written for Win2000 no longer working on XP - it's a complex business...

Good to see They are taking ownership and responding properly - that bodes well for you guys in general.

Cheers

My personal Opinion is this..

Windows 98 isnt even supported by Microsoft anymore. Dont expect much help from anyone else. Spend your $400 on a computer upgrade.

Anyone company that doesnt know Windows XP and Windows 98 are 100% INCOMPADIBLE and produces software for both... I would run, not walk away from.

Im thinking that the tech support and the software development are two totally different entities. So the tech wouldnt know that about 98/XP. On the other hand, How many companies do you know that would put out a fix for Windows 98 to satisfy a few customers? I think it speaks volumes for their customer service....

Question

I've heard of many different corporations sticking with Windows 98 because of the massive investment in customized software running on that operating system (like Commerce Bank).

However, I am not aware of any reasons why you would want to stick with 98 for a personal computer...

Sounds like these are some software geniuses! Who'd a thought that something that runs on XP won't work in 98?

98 and M are very common on laptops. To date there are still not a complete set of drivers for XP variants on older systems. Lots of laptops are brought home from work or leftovers.
98 also uses a lot less resources. It's also much much faster. I still have a laptop myself that won't use XP.
Also, 98 is still the choice for gaming in a lot of cases.

And as hard as it is to believe, not everyone is a computer geek.
Would you believe that there are still people on dial-up?
