if you have power locks, then you can take it to your dealer and have it activated in the VSM. did you plug the harness in inside the door?

Actually haven't bought the handles yet...just want to make sure I can activate the keypad before I add a keypad. I haven't seen a definite response from anyone on this forum who have added a keypad and have had it activated- just alot of responses about how the dealers don't know what they're talking about.

if you have power locks now, there should be a harness inside the door for the keypad already. all you have to do is hook it up, and ask the dealer to activate the keypad within the VSM, they should be able to give you the number first.

no matter what anybody tells you on here, what you need to be doing is contacting the dealer who will be doing your work. you can figure out how to do it on here but it wont mean anything if the dealer doesnt think they can do it. they are the ones you need tob e talking to

Do you have a keypad on it now? Do you have keyless entry (factory not dealer) now?
If you have the keypad now you should be able to just add it. If you have an XLT on up with factory keyless, the dealer will have to reprogram your security module. If you have an XL or STX you can not use it in stock configuration at all.

I have an STX and had to use an earlier module with a little creative wiring to make mine work.

I have an XLT and added the LT handles. The harness (for the keypad) was in the door and was plugged into the LT driver door handle with the keypad when I installed them. Keypad did not work by simply plugging it into the harness (12/04 build date). Took the truck to a local Lincoln dealer and gave them all the information regarding VSM and "as built" data that I learned from searching this site. Fortunately the service department was willing to spend the time on the phone with Ford to figure out how to make the keypad work. Best mod I've done so far and the dealer only charged me $35. Let me know if you want the name of the dealer. I'm located in Orange County, California.

Busterbad - Yes, I would appreciate the name of the dealer, also the name or # of the service writer. I'm in Sierra Madre, and wouldn't have a problem going to Orange County to get this done. It's quite reassuring to hear someone has actually had this done, much less at a dealer close (relatively) to me. Now I'll order the keypad! I spend alot of time hunting/fishing in the boonies, so it will be nice not to be worring about losing my keys whilst out & about. Thanks.

Dexter:

sorry for the delayed response. The dealer is Heritage Lincoln Mercury Mazda in Huntington Beach, 16800 Beach Boulevard, (714) 848-7739. The service advisor is #197 Davis, JE (I believe his first name is Jim).

From Invoice:

Concern: Cust states after installing keyless entry the keypad is inop

Correction: Necessary to access as built data through WDS

Technician was #052 Riley-19, Wes

Don't expect the great price I received (as this dealer does all the maintenance work for a friends company and they bent over backwards to figure this out) however, you should benefit from their learning curve on my truck. Hope this helps.

Keypad / handle all one unit. Mine was a 5L3Z-1522405-CAA

Took the door liner off to make sure the connector is there inside the door watch the lower speaker mount posts.

Mine was a later build, so it was just plug and play so to speek. Either way the keypad will light when plugged in, it's just wether or not the option is turned on in the software. If it lights but doesn't work have the dealer turn it on the next time you're in

Holy Cow its only 47 dollars! I paid $120 for that remote stick-on one! Does anyone know where to find the factory code after I hook the keypad up and if it does work without the dealer reprogramming it?

The code is on the security computer. On my XLT Supercab it's behind the rear seat on the drivers side, some are up under the dash. I'm assuming you don't have the tag with the five digit code still stuck in the owners manual.

Make sure you watch the bottom screws for the speakers. They are those spread once the screw goes in type. Once you have the speaker screws out they will pull straight out with a little wiggling. They pop into square holes. Once they are out the liner will come straight up.

The connector is about one inch round ( Gray ? ) with a six or eight pin connector missing one pin. Took me a while to find the hole the cable pops into. It has a hard 90 plastic piece that keeps it out of the way of the window.

Once I took the panel off to make sure the connector was there, it too me about an hour start to finish the second time to replace the handle / keypad.
