ac vent stx upgrades

Hey, I am new here and dont know if I am in the right place. I have a 05 stx f-150. I was in an Xlt the other day and noticed he had chrome accents on the ac vents and around the dash. Is there a way I can get these for my truck?? My truck is a base model F-150.....Ben

I don't see any on EBAY today, but check back once or twice a week. I'd probably use the following search criteria (cut-n-paste) as it's what I used when I was looking for them.

+ford +(f-150,f150) +(04,2004,05,2005,06,2006) +(vents,AC)

Expect to pay $50-80 for a set of four (4). Or, you can check the price with your dealership ... may be about the same.

There are three (3) versions. I am not listing all truck models next to the respective styles ... just in case I got one wrong:
  • black face black ring (STX)
  • black face chrome ring (XLT)
  • silver face chrome ring (Lariat)
... larger picture here. Good luck!

That GordoPanocho mentioned and silver (actually satin) with black ring. Yep, all four combos using the same two colors.

They do add a certain something to the STX, especially if you have a satin finish aftermarket head unit.

I traded my silver ones for black with a chrome ring around it, I wish I would have held out for all black. Let me know if you wanna sell yours or do a trade.

Question concerning these vents, does anyone know the "trick" to remove them?

I am sure it is probably simple, but I don't want to break the first one figuring it out :-)

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I didn't think of satin face black ring. That's not an OEM combo though is it? It could certainly be 'made.'

As for getting them out, I used a bent screwdriver (about a 90 degree bend) ... slipped it under one of the two tabs that hold the vent in the hole and slowly/carefully worked them out. "Pull"ing didn't work for me.

I bought my black/chromes from another member for $35. I turned around and sold my satin/chromes on EBAY for $118 total! I got lucky IMO.

snip.
Hi, I saw them with the black ring and satin center on e-bay, they were not 'home made' as the edge was the center color, not the ring color.
I do not have a clue as to what they came stock on. The vendor didn't know, just was a guy selling parts.

For those interested, you can swap them around, but on the side of the vent the original color of the center will show. The silver ring black ones and the black ring black ones do not actually use the same ring.

Of course you can swap em around and they still look good.
