Dealer won't transport my new F150?????
Okay, the dealer had to search, and search to find me an 2006 F150, black in color, 8 foot bed, SC, and tow package.
Okay, they found me on. We agreed on OTD price. Approved..
Dealer calls me up and tells me the truck will be here tomorrow. .However, they have to drive the truck at 150 to 200 miles to get it here. WTF!!
I told them to have the truck transported or towed. They called me back and told me it would cost me $400 to $500 extra to have it transported here.
As much as I want this particular truck, I told them that was unacceptable.

If they don't give in, it looks like I will have to start the searching process all over again!! Dam...
Since this is my first truck ever, and it is supposed to be brand new, I am paying for a brand new truck, I don't want it with 200 miles of I don't know how it was drivin miles on it..

Oh well, whattya gonna do? If you want the truck bad enough, deal with it. 200 miles isn't anything. I flew to PA and drove my Mustang home when I bought it (5000 miles). If it's worth it, it's worth it.

You probably don't want to know about the burn-outs and do-nuts the factory monkeys do when they move the truck from the end of the assembly line to the parking lot.
Or the additional stunts the railcar loading baboons pull getting the truck onto that transporter.
Or the additional abuse from joy rides where the truck is now.
Heck, they probably even reflashed the PCM for ya for grins, washed it with a 3000psi pressure washer and applied Wal-Mart cheap wax, buffed off with an old shop rag. After the bird poop was left on the paint to bake for a while.
If anything the 'damage' has already been done. Get over it.
Take a bus, hitch a ride.. whatever.
Road trip & test drive. Go get your truck and enjoy it.

Chris has an excellent point. It's a 200 mile test drive for you to find things you don't like, vibrations, noises in the cab, things of that nature. Then if it's really bad or just something minor you can hold off signing and wait till it's fixed.
DO NOT SIGN UNTIL YOU HAVE DRIVEN AND GONE OVER THAT TRUCK WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB!!!!!
Please listen to these warnings as I didn't and wish to God I did. I had minor scratches all over and never took the time to really really look at it. Nor did I notice the rattle noise in the steering column. Yes it's under warranty, but these things never get fixed as fast after you sign for the truck.
Besides, do you really want some kid driving your truck 200 miles and having fun flooring it at every possible opportunity?
You bought the Virgin, you should pop the cherry, not some other guy.

They actually should drive you down there and you'll drive it back to the dealership. You shouldn't have to drive yourself or have someone take you down there. They'd be driving anyhow, the only difference is you're driving it back and not the lot guy. DON'T SIGN UNTIL YOU'VE DRIVEN THE 200 MILES BACK TO THE DEALER AND ARE PERFECTLY SATISFIED WITH THE TRUCK!

Before I would agree to that, make sure it has absolutely every option that you want. You see so many people changing seats and consoles and other stuff. If they are going to have to transfer a truck for you, make sure it is going to be perfect,... or just order one.
While I can't speak for other dealers obviously my store is very careful with this kind of thing. We use two old retired guys for our dealer transfers, one is even a Pearl Harbor survivor!
These guys inspect the vehicle with a fine tooth comb before bringing it back. They poke along at about 50 holding up traffic when driving back to our store.
I would think you would be fine letting them drive it in, just inspect it real well before accepting delivery.

No big deal. I agreed to the same thing because I had to have the black with shadow gray two-tone. They found one in Nebraska and drove it down to me (255 miles). The guy who drove it actually informed me of a problem he noticed at highway speed (bad tire). They replaced it and out the door I went. They did amend the warranty out another 250 miles (wow
) more, but I don't think that is important. Besides, if a "punk" drove it down and was a little hard on it, they will fix it. I do agree with the others, just go up and drive it home as a test drive.

I had a similar problem. I was stuck on getting a red FX4 but the only one in the Dallas Metroplex was at my dealer with 1940 miles already on it. They wouldn't drop the price becuase of the mileage and the closest match was 380 miles away. I regret getting black because it sucks to keep clean.
They refused to let me drive the truck so don't plan on that happening. I called the dealer that had the truck and he said he wouldn't budge off of MSRP and I made the mistake of telling him I had to drive almost 400 miles to pick it up.

As someone stated earlier, that extra 200 miles will be an extra break-in period. I would not sign on the dotted line until you yourself put an additional 200 miles on it test driving for a couple days.
When I bought my 05 Lariat Screw, I put 300 miles on it driving it to work everyday for a week (before I bought and signed the paperwork). I also put a couple hundred on other 05s that I didn't like until I found my current truck.
Bottom Line: Don't forget, you are the customer. The dealer should be happy to let you drive the truck for a couple days to make sure its what you want. That is, if they are interested in your future business now and years down the road.

If it's the truck you want, then just buy the damn thing. I work in the Fleet Department for a Ford dealer, and 200 miles is nothing. Transporting is very expensive. I have a number of vehicles on my lot that I got via dealer trade that have well over 200 miles on them. Heck, I've got one Super Duty truck we got in a dealer trade and it's got 600 miles on it. It's not a big deal, and it's still a new car. You still have the right to refuse the vehicle after they get it if it doesn't meet your expectations. I have had this happen many times because the sales person doesn't go over the equipment list with the customer. Have him get the truck, and if you don't like it, don't take it. They can't force you to take it. Just don't sign a contract until you SEE THE VEHICLE.

It is people like this that run up miles on new vehicles and then say "no". The point is that he does not want extra miles on his NEW truck. "Do as I say, and not as I do?"
