PCM Update for Trucks built before 4/20/2005

I took my truck back yesterday for that annoying clunk it has had since I bought it. Every time you tip back into the throttle and it downshifts it went "clunk". I had never driven it without it clunking several times before I got to my destination.

After the reflash I got yesterday, it hasn't clunked since. It shifts a million times smoother. Every place that it usually clunked, it never did, just a smooth downshift. Throttle response seems much better also. I don't think that the reflash actually gave it more power, but it feels much more sporty and responsive. Like someone else was saying, you can definetly tell there's 300 horses there now.

For any of you that were like me and ford had told you that the 3-2 clunk downshift was normal and your build date was prior to 4/20/05 per the tsb, get the reflash. No more clunking!!! This thing drives like a whole new truck, it's much more pleasurable to drive.

Carl

By the way the date in the thread title is wrong it should be 4/20/05, my bad!

I guess the TSB has been updated to include more recently built trucks since I found this one online.

Nevertheless, The reflash is great!! Go do it!

i had not realized that the clunk i got everyday making a turn into my development is gone. same place same speed. i got it reflashed a couple weeks ago and now looking back i can say i have not heard it.

build date was feb 05.

i only took it in for the hesitation and throttle lag.

now if they could just get rid of the road vibration thru the steering wheel.

if you havent done the dwv intake mod that is listed in this forum section it you will find it worth doing. cheap and efective.

It sounds as if TSB 05-10-12 supersedes TSB 05-19-1 since both refer to PCM firmware upgrades for vehicles built prior to 04/20/05. Is this correct? (TSB 05-19-1 is referenced here: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hlight=05-19-1)

I also have experienced the throttle lag and driveline clunk a few times, but I'm most concerned about fixing a no start issue I had last Saturday (see the last few posts in this thread for the details: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=212246). Does anyone know for sure if 05-10-12 addresses the no start issue? Thanks!

Back in June or so, I had the 04-24-14 reflash done. Made a world of difference in my truck. Does anyone know what the differences are between the 04-24-14 and these newer TSBs?

Question for Quintin

Quintin,

Can you tell us what the newest PCM relash code is now?

I've been having these same issues with the downshift clunk, drives me crazy.

Thanks.

Finally, a fix for my annoying 3-2 downshift!!! This has bugged me ever since I picked up my truck in 4-05, but was told that this is "normal" and that there was nothing that could be done about it. I will have to make a trip to the local Ford garage after work to look into this.

It's impossible to say what the latest calibration is without actually trying to reprogram the PCM, since some trucks may have different calibrations depending on build date. For mine at least, an April '04 build 5.4 3V Supercab, the latest available is 4U7A-12A650-GPA. This may apply to some other trucks built around the same date, I dunno.

I have a 05 screw with a build date of 04/05. I took it in for a reflash and according to the sticker under the hood, it is tsb 05-10-02. I complained about no power off the line, and a lack of trottle respose when attempting to pass.
After the update it was like a new truck. Before when sitting at a stoplight I could take my foot off the brake and the truck would not move, now it pulls forward like every other vehicle ive ever driven. I barely have to put in as much trottle as I did prior to the update to do the same acceleration. It also shifts harder and the lag time in shifting is reduced when passing.

Is this reflash free through the dealer? Is it covered under warranty work? If so I'm taking it to the dealer today.

Geese according to that document there are a billion reflashes. I had a reflash done awhile ago thanks to quintin, but can't remember which one. I have to go back in because the fix for the headliner rattling doesn't work anymore. The headliner rattles against the roof even harder now then it did before and it is so loud.
