Whew! What a relief, I won't worry about keypad break-ins anymore.

<ugh>

-Think i'll just post a decal on the door handles:
"Emergency Exit/Entry - Kick Sliding Rear Window..."

-Sorry Chris, i'll stop posting.

yes, I knew that, don't know why it did not register in my dumb brain to give the other numbers a try.

I use my keypad all the time. I would never buy another vehicle without it.

I always have a spare set of keys in the truck, in case I ever lose my keys, I will not be stranded anywhere, especially when we are far from home.

I love being able to open the truck anytime I want, when I dont have the keys.

When we take road trips with the dogs, and the weather is too cold/too hot, we lock the truck up running with the keypad, when we hit rest stops/restaurants, etc.

It was something I wouldnt have paid extra for, now I cant live without.
I also have them integrated with the factory Ford (code-alarm) gold series alarm, and it works awesome! It is a sweet setup. disarms when you unlock and rearms when you lock.

The rear backup sensors are the same way to me. Saved my butt a bunch of times, and now I always back in and park perfectly everywhere I go. (Front sensors would be nice too!)

I would not buy the power pedals, I used them once or twice in the last 30k miles. Probably good idea if you are extremely oversized/undersized.

Sorry bout the break in details, wasn't a good idea. By no means would I want to aid some scumbag thief. I've had multiple breakins (none in the truck) and one stolen which was totaled. If anyone is concerned about it, check out jimmi jammer. Again, sorry.

I wouldn't buy them either, but they came on my truck.

With the memory seat function, and a spouse you shared the truck with every day, I could see where this would be a real nice feature.

Open with my fob, and everything adjusts for me, and I need the pedals all the way down. The wife opens with her fob, and everything adjusts for her, and she needs the pedals all the way up.

So it has it's benefits, but I don't share my truck with my wife.

And if you had a trunk it would be 5/6 to pop it.

I know its a long shot but what if someone starts pressing buttons randomly? Is there a lock-out after x=amount of wrong buttons are pressed - say five minutes or so?

Yes, it's called antiscan, times out (lockout) for one minute after 7 tries...

That would be good to hook up to a power tail gate.

The keypad is probably my favorite bang for the buck option on the truck. However, I tend to have brain farts when I drive vehicles without the key pad. I have tossed my wife's keys in her xterra and locked the doors twice now since I've had my truck. Thank god for hide-a-key!!!

Add a taplock. Cost about 26 bucks. I put one on my toad (new model Tracker) for beach or hiking. Tap a code on the window and it unlocks the doors. Not as nice as the keypad, but cheap and easy to install.

I don't think I've ever used the keypad on my truck other than to change the factory setting. With the remote lock and the remote starter, don't have much need for it.

In all honesty... the keypad thing was one of the reasons I sold my Silverado and bought a F150.

It wasn't first on the list... but it was on there.

Then again so were the power windows in the back of the SCAB.

If I was scoping out a truck to steal, I would watch the combination you fools press and as you leave the truck I'd use that combination, and steal the damn keys you left in there. And don't say you look around you 100% of the time for lookers.

Um, what combination? You lock it with the fob, or the key, or the switch. The combo is only pushed when you leave. And surprisingly, most of us are not idiots and do stand close to lock them. And what would the combo do for you that a rock wouldn't? And if you were standing that close, I think I might be even closer.

A guy waiting at the beach to steal trucks would have hundreds of convertibles, etc. that would bring more money, and not even require a special set of binoculars...

Needing keys to steal something applies to 'challenged' kids. An adult or average kid who wants to steal a car/truck can spend ten minutes on the net, or talk to one of his buddies, and learn how to steal a car without keys.

I blame mission impossible.
Since those days, everyone has some great 3-5 part scheme to do anything.

Chris, who knows that criminals are NEVER great thinkers, hard workers, or dynamic leaders, expect on TV.
