Nice install and photos dzervit! I wasn't worried about the voltage going thru the crimp connectors. I wouldn't be worried about the twist on cap either. Those have been used for a long time, with much higher voltage running thru them.

Long live satellite radio!!

Buy some of this stuff:

Wrap it around everything then tie the ends off.

^ Neat product. I think I'm just going to slap a small peice of leftover dynamat on top of the cuphoder tray, then secure the PIE unit to it.

I 2x taped the PIE unit to the underside of the radio. Seemed like a good place to me.

I almost did that, but that radio gets pretty toasty. For the little bit I ran it, it was very warm to the touch. I figured it would heat up and the tape would give...

Well....time to resurrect this old thread....

....my tape adapter for my SkyFi2 passed away this weekend...the gears bound up inside the adapter and the tape player literally "blew-up" my adapter...talk about a pain in the *** to extract the adapter....

...anyway...I will be without my XM radio until later this week when my P.I.E. adapter comes in....I am not a fan of the FM modulation due to the fact that every channel built into the SkiFi2 seems to conflict with local broadcasts here...thus providing a HORRIBLE quality sound...

...I hope this P.I.E. adapter is worth the $100 I just spent on it....

Does the P.I.E. adaptor allow you to bypass both the wireless FM modulator and the cigarette lighter power cord? Meaning, does it provide sound quality and power? And just how bad is the sound when you use the wireless FM modulator? And someone mentioned an alternative to the P.I.E. What's the difference?

The PIE unit does not supply power to anything... did you even read the thread? Have you used the search button in the 3 years you've been a member?

Scanned the thread. It got kind of long and boring. Just asked a simple question. I've used the search button 53 times in the past three years. And if I had used it here, it would have brought me to this thread anyway.

I noticed that you have your XM antenna on your dash in this shot....how is your reception there? I used to have mine under the wiper cowl but got horrible reception...so I moved it to the roof above the drivers side winshield.

Reception is very good. On my last road trip, depending on the direction I was heading and the amount of trees on the roadside I'd lose signal very briefly, but that's about it. I have about 99.9% uptime for the radio. I only lose signal during my normal driving in about 3 places for a second or two. 2 places are huge overpass/freeway exchanges and the third is a side street. I don't get it, but it happens. I'm happy, and didn't have to run any wire anywhere or have fear of a leaky brake light. I tested it for a week or so when I first got the unit, and decided to make it permanant.

I wonder if geographic location plays that much of a role between MI and southern IL....cause when I had my antenna below my roof line, I got real crappy reception....now that it is above the windshield....I have yet to lose my reception (only once when I was driving through thick woods)....

...I ran my wire down the winshield weather stripping and behind the cowl...then down the firewall and through one of the rubber gromets into the cab behind the pedals and into that massive cave behind the radio...

...course I have been without my beloved XM since this weekend...but UPS indicates that my PIE will be here tomorrow...

I think your problem was the plastic over the antenna. You had it underneath your ice cube trays, right? I bet if you had it resting ON the ICT you'd be fine.
