New stuff I bought...HID and Headlights

Whats up all...Ive been missing for a while and finally got back in to modding the truck again.

Since Ive been MIA, Ive done a couple things:

- New 50 Series Flows SIDO (dont care about HP, just wanted sound)
- Patriot Color Matched Tonneau (Ill have pics up shortly)

Yesterday, after not looking for much online, I decided to buy these two items without doing research. Im not sure if Ill regret it, but I did it anyways as an impulse buy like many of us do:

- Harley Headlights (Black Housing)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05...spagenameZWDVW

- H13 HID Kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6000K...spagenameZWDVW

They were decently cheap, so I decided to try it out.

Question:

When replacing the headlights, will I need to realign the beam? Or will it just be as easy as plug and play?

You'll have to realign, ESPECIALLY since you're going to put in aftermarket HID. Having HID in those headlights will have an uknown output and you may blind other drivers.

Post up pics of your headlights when you get them in. I have been wanting to get a set for my black super crew but I don't know how they will be on a 4wd. If I do I think I will get the factory ones though.

Ive had them on another car, but not H13. They are as close to factory as any other HID/Ballast combo - similar to Phillips or something of that sort. I got the 6k ones because I dont want it blue looking.

Ill post pics before and after. Both should be in by the middle of next week. Install will be the same night I get them in.

Why do you think it would look any different on a 4WD vs a 2WD? Anyways, SteveVFX4 and Red Wing Nut both have FX4's and have the black headlights. You can look up there galleries if that will help you.

A couple people here have it...I think some have Black F150's too...like yours. I have a DSG. Yeah, I didnt understand that part too...2wd / 4wd....eh, whatever. All I know is that Ive seen it on all the colors and so far the one that is the most eye catchy one is the Red F150's with Black Housin lights...CLEAN!

be careful, those kits are mcculloch. Famous for breaking. Also, they are illegal in the united states, so if they break there is no warranty to replace them. the best thing to do is a full hid retrofit like i'm doing or some other people on here. search for hidretrofit and you'll find more information or go to hidforum.com

When you say famous for breaking, what breaks? The bulbs, the electronics, or something else? I know next to nothing about HID's. I doubt I'll ever go to an HID set up, I'm just curious.

McCulloch has been issued a cease and desist from the NHTSA for exporting illegal products. They do not conform to lighting regulations and do not pass testing.
They are well known also for premature failure. Their electronics fail quickly and the bulbs burn out much faster than they should. Since they are an illegal item, the manufacturer can not and has stated they will not comply to any warranties made from the USA and Canada.
Many people are disaapointed that they pay good money for these kits to only have them fail in a year.

HIDPLANET you own a f150 and are all about HID. Do you have a swap in your truck? What would you suggest putting in there that is easy with no mods?

Im stubborn...theres only one way to find out. Ive seen these on other rides and they have not failed yet. Im sure there are many cases where they do fail, but if I get hopefully one year with it, Im good. Maybe by then there will be another kit out that is more affordable.

Well, for true HID Performance there is no simply route with no mods.
You have to open your headlight assembly and retrofit a set of HID projectors or reflectors in there to get that OEM light output and performance. A HID bulb (with ballasts) inserted into a halogen assembly generates mixed results, but since it was not designed for that particular light source, it will not act or look like OEM HIDs you see on alot of vehicles today.
Mine is still in the works...its a total custom job and is taking months....BUT for a more common approach, you can use commonly found hardware online and use them for a retrofit.
