That is the most common mistake people make about HID.
The blue hues you eyes see from the BMW headlights is produced because of a light prism effect that occurs when the white light passes over the shield inside the projector itself. This does not change the color of the useable output on the road. Whereas with aftermarket HID Kits, they market their product to "trick" people to think that this is how OEM gets their color. By mixing salts or tinted glass to actually change the color of the light output.
Having a colored output really reduces the useable lumens and causes eye fatigue over time. This is why when you drive or ride in a OEM HID equipped vehicle, its like sunshine in front of the car, and not a blue colored light.

Well if you must go with a KIT, I would go with a 5000K because of the performance issues. Here is an example of what I was speaking of. Notice the color cutoff but the amount of light on the ground. Much light to use while driving. HID Kits can not provide this amount of light on the ground.

I am having trouble understanding why no one has tried to use the navigator hid system. After reading all the possible trouble caused from an aftermarket setup, what is the problem when it comes to swapping that system. Is it physically impossible or difficult and/or expensive to gather the parts? Just something i was pondering today.

And on a side note, why don't the aftermarket headlights for the expedition, navigator and f150 interchange. Physically they appear the same, i just haven't had the opportunity to look at them up close. Thought you guys might know.

HIDPLANT, would you be able to tell me what color light I would be getting from the 5K light from a stand point of on coming traffic? From what the seller is saying to me is that it will be white with a slight hue of yellow like most oem hids system. I do not recall seeing any yellow from oem hid systems. He say 6k would be pure white with a very slight blue tone which seems to be what I see from most OEM system, but from the photos I have seen in this website and others the blue is very strong from the 6k kits. I just that too much blue would look like the cheap coated blue bulbs. Any input or ideas?
Thanks for your time.
Marco

yea i agree, i mean, i have no problem with the blue, it deffinatly makes the person next to you look over to see what kinda car you have, but on a side note, there is alot of blue in there, more so then most hids. i think im going to just say screw it and go for the 6k what the heck, as long as they draw attention thats all that matters right, at least when you are single

If color over performance is what you seek, then you should go with 6000K You sacrifice alot of performance which is not what alot of people want if they are lighting enthusists or really need a good upgrade in lighting. To get a kit so people look at your vehicle seems also like a waste of your hard earned money.
Anyhow, from the standpoint of oncoming traffic, with a reflector based HID Kit, a 6000K kit will look bluer than a 4100K OEM HID system. Take the KIT pictures posted in this thread. See the color...well thats what it is putting out and it will be a concentrated source of this color.
5000K will be more like a OEM reflector based HID system.
Just remember, your beam pattern is based on the reflector you use and the ones on our trucks is very poor IMO.

completely understandable, so what do you think the 5k would look like, just kinda white? the only think i can compare to would be a lexus IS 300? one of my friends has one, they dont really have any blue in them at all, but just shine a really white light on the road, im going for that or maybe a just a little bluer, would i acheive that look with the 5k or would that just not really match up to the lexus, im not to concerned with light output as i live in a big city and also have a pair of hella 550s on the way

Well HID reflectors dont produce so much color flicer as projectors so, but cars like the IS300 and Infiniti SUV produce a nice white output oncoming as well.
A 5000K kit will get you this look but there will be little to no bluish hue. But it also depends on the Kit manufacturer. They differ from company to company. But be careful when choosing as most asian made kits have a high failure rate.

Mine look like they shine fairly blue on the wall in my pics...on the floor in the street its pretty damn white. Out of the headlight...yeah, it will look bluish for sure after comparing it...but heck, I love it!

I like it...looks PIMP! Someone actually rolled his window down and asked me if it was an option...LOL. I had to joke with him for a sec and told him his truck was too old (though it looked like mine). He gave me the thumbs up...

Only one way to find out ya'll...just do it!

Oncoming, it may look similar to OEM HID systems, but compare them side by side and look at the light spread and intensity, and HID Kits cant touch the OEM output.
