For something that doesn't matter this thread is getting a lot of activity.

Years ago a buddy of mine bought a Chevy Malibu (maybe a '78). He was pleased with his purchase although he said he thought he paid too much. He took some of us for a ride. It was a four door car, I got in the back. This is when the malibu was considered fullsize. He also had no AC. With five us inside I went to roll down the window. No Crank! I couldn't believe a fullsize four door car had fixed rear windows, especially with no AC. The owner was slightly perturbed as he didn't know about the windows before the purchase.
I made up my mind then I'd never buy a GM.

Either there will be a keyhole on each side of the truck or I've bought my last Ford.

My current truck has FOB/power locks. I've used the keyhole maybe five times on the drivers side and probably never on the passenger side but, that's not the point.

Half of the friggin' people on the road don't signal.
Are turn indicators the next to go?

I'm done being nickle and dimed.

On my wife's 2004 Tbird there is only one key hole on the entire outside of car. Even the trunk doesn't have a key hole, outside.

Who cares never use it anyway. If the battery goes dead, battery is in the trunk, there is a mechanical keyhole behind the drivers seat to unlock the deck lid.

$3.00 a unit, 800,000 units sold, $24,000,000...nickel and diming adds up to Uncle Henry. You should see the cutbacks they've made in regards to warranty labor times at the dealership level...

What are you going to buy next time? Most other manufacturers dropped the passenger keyhole earlier. I'll bet people who bought Neons with power windows were surprised to find the rear windows still manual. I had one of the Malibus and 78 was the first year they were downsized and were not full sized. Worst company car I ever had with a 200 V6 (not horsepower).

I agree with sales the way they are, my guess is save 5 bucks where ever possible and add it up. I'm sure just getting rid of trim pieces, adding plastic gas covers, and dropping lights/keyholes added up to millions in savings on parts alone.
The ones with the passenger key usually have the 'bench' seat, like mine.
Mostly because the bottom line ones have no power door locks and bench seats.

.

I had a buddy with one of those too. Those useless little pivot windows don't do much on a 100 deg day! We used to die in the backseat.

I've narrowed it down to a 80-86 CJ.

No doors, no door keyhole.

Holy #eLL Batman! Uncle Henry saves >$14 per truck by DELETING the key cylinder and installing a the passenger side actuator:

Prices from Ford Parts Network:
-------------------- List -----Retail
Lock cylinder 04-05 $52.62 $44.20

Actuator Right 04-05 $36.23 $30.43
Actuator Left 04-05 $60.88 $51.14

What is 800,000 x $14 = $11,200,000 into the Ford Coffers!!!

Just a note Quintin: $3 x 800K = $2.4 million, but they probably really are saving ~$11 million

Time to ask for that RAISE!!!

Well - there goes that theory right down the toilet...

Must be the "screwdriver break-in" theory then...

One of the local DJ's here in Detroit (Drew and Mike) was talking about his TBird. The battery died in the driveway, couldn't open the doors, couldn't open the trunk to jump it, etc...ended up having to have it towed to Ford so they could put a new battery in.

The mid 80's CJ is sounding better and better...

it was probably something other than the battery. I can't see the battery being drained so low that the doors wont open (unless you store it with a parasitic drain for the winter)
