Axle angles between Fabtech & Pro Comp

With both Fabtech and Pro Comps 6" lifts, they retain the factory drive line anlges in similar fashions from what i've been reading. Both relocating the front differential by lowering it from what I've read.

With that being said, can someone answer this question for me. With my Fabtech w/ Dirt Logic coil overs, my front axles look as though I was almost running a leveling kit up front with the angle that they are on. Nothing close to stock positioning.

I was just reading EddyG88's thread about his new skid plates, he is running a Pro Comp Stage 1 w/ some posted pic's. While looking at his front axles, I noticed a huge difference in the angle on his.

Is it since that I'm running the Dirt Logics and not using a spacer like the Pro Comp lift. With the fabtech lift, the front is lifted via a taller shock thru the stock coil if you do not upgrade to the DL's.

So can someone answer why the difference in axle angles. I wasn't really into the leveling kit for this very reason, seeing the angle of the axles. For what it's worth, I have the retaining ring spun down about an inch from the top, meaning about only an inch of thread showing.

Thanks for any light ya can shed on this for me.

Chris

You are talking about the half axles going to the front wheels right?
I thought the fabtech stage 1 used spacer towers like the procomp lift did. I dont see why our angles would be different regardless. hmmm

The coilovers are length adjustable and right now yours are adjusted high. To bring the angle of the halfshaft close to stock, you need to adjust the height of the coilover shorter thus giving you less of an angle on the halfshaft. Who installed your lift and Coilovers?

Eddy, yes. Take a look at the front end in my gallery, you'll see what I talk'n about w/ the angles. I think Sal gave me the answer to correct my "half shaft" angles. Nope no spacers used w/ the Fabtech Performance kit. Either use taller shocks or something like Dirt Logics.

Sal, so I need to really crank down and compress the coil quite a bit more if i understand you correctly. Could this be a reason why I am hearing a popping sound come from the front end when I make a tight slow turn?

I had a shop do the install of both. The shop has a real good reputation from what I've been hearing. The only thing I didn't get were any instuctions on the Dirt Logics.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Chris, seems like your truck is sitting level (from your pics). If you were to have the coilovers adjusted (shortened the length) you would lose height in the front. Do you know if the shop did anything other than what was in the fabtech kit to lft the rear? As far as the popping, the only thing I can think of is maybe your steering knuckle is hitting the coil over?? You may want to look for wear on the coilspring. First thing I would do is take your truck back to the shop and explain your problems. You paid them to work on your truck to your satisfaction...let them make it right for you.

Btw, your truck looks awesome!

Hey, can you send me a close up of the lower a arm and halfshaft? I am looking at the pic in the gallery and it doesn't look that bad from the pic.

I looked at it, and it looks fine to me.

StAugTonka, what shop did the install for you?

Im looking for a place to do mine, and Im thinking of either taking it to Bubba's Trucks or 4 Wheel Parts down in Orlando.

Sal, the truck is sitting about an inch higher in the front as of right now. In those pics, I have the 4 stck wheels and tires in the bed, I've got another angle that shows the front sitting higher at the same time. The shop only added the supplied blocks from the kit. I'll take a look at the coils when I get the truck back from Ford, hopefully tomorrow. Funny thing about the popping is that it only recently started happening. Sal, when I get the truck back, I'll take some pics and send them to ya pronto.

Also, thanks for the comp. The lift definately changed the appearance of the truck, good thing.

Micheal, a shop in Jax. "4X4's & More", total price was like $2800. Steve at Gary Yoeman's is having the truck brought over to Gary's Driveline in Daytona to have the shimming done for the pinion angle. He speaks very highly of them and that is where Ford brings there vehichles to have some specialty work done. I think my service writer mentioned that they do lifts as well. If ya want, pm me a cell # and I can give ya a call when I pick the truck up and swing thru DeLand on the way home if ya would like to take a look before you commit yourself to this kit.

BTW, did ya guys take a look at EddyG88's pics that he posted the other day of his skid plate. He had a good pic of his lower front end, his half shafts look almost dead level. Maybe I'm just to nit picky.

Thanks again fellas.

Chris

Chris, If the front is sitting higher *without* anything in the bed then yes I would say they need adjustment. The front halfshafts should appear as EddyG88's...level. You are just like me (a *little* nitpicky) but I don't like any angle on my halfshafts either. But take a look at this pic, I have learned to live with it for now....

Hey Sal, you had asked earlier if i had any rubbing issues, and after looking at your gallery shot w/ the rubbing on the coil, I remembered that the DL's are in fact smaller in dia. than the stock coils, so I doubt I have any rubbing on them at all, but I'll still check.

I hate loosing any height after having it now, but i do want to get the half shafts closer to stock. I hope that it will make it a little more wear resistant.

Luv your truck BTW. Those 37's look really sweet too. Especially look'n at it from the front. How does it roll w/ those on it w/ the 4.56's?

From my understanding they ALL are touching the Coilovers possibly even the DL's!

It appears to not be an issue!

2 friends of mine just got theirs lifted. 1) Fabtech and 1) Pro Comp and from what I seen on both looks just like mine.

Once the rubbing reaches it's max point then alls good I guess LOL!

If you want the halfshafts more level you're gonna lose height *if* you adjust the coilovers.

I hated driving with the 3.73s and the 37s BUT after the 4.56s I love it! I haven't checked the mpg's since the speedo isn't corrected but I will check after I get a chip (to correct the speedo).
