Hey, have any of you guys taken the chrome shifter bezel off? I want to paint mine -- don't like the chrome.

I'm extremely confident that it will match the 05 tan interior. In the Lincoln.com pictures the shifter matches the dash and not the seats and the dash in the tan lincoln is identical to the dash in the 05 f150.
The part number from http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com for the tan shifter is 5L3Z7213BA.

For some reason the tan shifter costs a lot more than the black one. They are selling the tan shifter for $45.99 plus $7.99 s/h.

I'm still waiting form my **** to come in. Been about 30 days now. They are telling me something about the shipping carrier going on strike and being back logged. I'm also still waiting for my passenger side window regulator to come in too.

Can't wait to get this mod started.

Thumbs up

Wowzers! what a great mod! Did mine today following the above instructions, not hard at all, anyone with half a brain can do this!
Wow and what a difference it makes, feels great in yo hand!
Heres a pic of the part of the Mark LT handle that has to be dremmeled out:

after removing this part just shave down the 'fins' on the guts of the F150 shifter to fit the Leather wrapped LT sleeve that remains.

I used a little dab of 5 min. JB-weld (i love that stuff) to hold the gutz from moving in the sleeve and also to keep the chrome top from popping off. The entire project took about 45-50 min.
Many thanks to purpony and all you others for the detailed pics and instructions!

I also have that shifter and have not put it in yet. Exactly what did you dremel was it the entire guts so that it was just a shell to reinstall the 150 guts. Need to know.

If it's just a shell how does it feel so much better? Is it a heavier material, and by how much? I hate hearling the plastic clicking around when I shift, so weak. And I didn't notice where you ordered them from, do the Ford dealerships (in the parts dept.) have them floating around or do they order them, or is it a Lincoln dealership you have to go to.

Josiah, You know the difference between warm rich corinthian (lol) leather with stiching vs cold plastic when you feel it. No rattles either, that usta bug me at a stop lite I would inveriably fiddle with the shifter and it always rattled, the Ford OEM shifter is weak your rite.
I got mine from Ford Parts Network If you have trouble locating the part there click the contact link and Email Torrie, he will get right back to you always. give him the part number listed earlier in this thread.

Awesome, this will cost me about a hundred and eleven dollars, I gotta by myself a dremel. I was thinking of the Dremel XP7000 or whatever it's called. Would someone get me the part number for the chrome faceplate of the actual shifting base. It's the chrome 'surround' around the base of the shifter, it houses the "PRND12" symbols.

Does anyone have the details of how to remove the F150 shifter? I figured that I slide down the bottom collar by pushing down somewhat hard. The next step that I recall is to find an appropriate tool to push down the inside collar..... What tool worked best without damaging anything? Do I simply pry at it? How much force is too much? Does anything have to rotate as I pry? I just received my LT shifter and am planning on doing the swap this weekend. Any further details would be great.

I must have viewed this thread late. Most of the pictures in the beginning no longer work. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I can't get this sob off. I'd rather not make an entire post about it but would someone direct me and the guy above myself in the right direction. It should just slide out I presumed. It's extremely hard to drive like this, so the sooner the help the better.

Josiah, I received help via email from a couple people on this thread. I want to share what I've learned with you. First of all, I noticed that you already have the outer lower cover pulled down. The inner collar also will pull down with a bit more force. Pry at the top of the collar/bottom of shifter. Once it is lowered like the chrome cover, push the button in and pull up straight on the shifter. Twisting is not necessary.

The directions earlier in this thread proved very helpful to complete the install. It took me a lot of time grinding the inside of the leather shifter out and then grinding down the original internals until it fit properly.
