Thumbs down Ford bug deflector design

Bought a Ford low profile bug deflector today at the dealership. After looking at installation I just decided I didn't like it. I don't like the idea of those clips on the hood, and the plastic fitting between the hood and grill surround. Does anybody else think this design sucks?

No not really. Works fine on my truck. Just stick it on and don't worry about it.

As far as sturdiness, it is by far the best I have had on any truck. With it sandwiched between grill and hood, it just doesn't move at all, not even at high speed. As for the side clips, I don't know of any other way to attach that would be secure.

Well if you don't like the clips, you could ruin a perfectly good hood and drill holes into it to secure the bug deflector.

The AVS shield attaches the same way. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever, and I'm picky.

I'll have to pass on that idea too. I think I'm gonna do without this time.

The real question here is...what's the alternative? Every deflector I've looked at utilizes the same attachment method, including my EGR Carbon Fiber which I consider one of the best on the market.

I have no issue with the attachment method and am very satisfied with appearance and stability of the product. The Carbon Fiber is especially matched to the shadow, silver, beige, and black rigs.

It works better than any other I have ever had and moves less.

the included clear "tape" is used to protect the hood from any damage caused by the clips. If you wnat to take off your deflector, the tape just peels right off, with no to very little damage. Even if it does have damage where the cend clips were, it beats having the entire front lip of the hood and windshield cratered from road debris and rocks....

...but to each his own.

Amen to heybeer's 'cratered hood', especially the soft aluminum hoods on the F150s.

Re: the clip attachments...apply a dab of Vaseline during installation to prevent tearing the clear tape.

I'm another one who doesn't really like the appearance of the deflector. That said, I am going to be taking my truck on vacation soon and I'll be traveling where it's sure to see some stones. So, I suppose you all would consider me foolish if I didn't put one on. My question is, how bad will it look if I take it off when I get home?

I don't think the 2 little plastic (clear) stick on protectors would come off the hood very easily.
