Opinions wanted on New F150s
Hi All,
It's been a while since I've been here and I'm considering a new truck sometime in the future. I currently have a 99 F150 Supercab, 4x4.
I've been thinking about one of the new F150 Supercrews, 4x4 and just thought I would get some opinions here on how much everyone likes or dislikes their trucks?
Other trucks considering would be F250 Diesel or possibly new Titan.
Like I said just starting to research them.
Thanks
Hillbilly

you can't compare to a heavy duty with diesel. You want a half ton or you want a diesel. Its like the difference between an F150 and a Ranger.
Now as far as F150 vs Titan, you may be lucky to find 1 in 1000 that would tell you to go with the Titan... and that guy is a troll anyway.
Best thing you can do is read some posts here and then read some posts at TitanTalk to get a feel about what the owners think.
Good luck.

Make sure you sit in it first and drive it around. The seats to me are not comfortable at all. I'm in the truck about 90 minutes per day and it didn't take long for them to get to me.
I echo J-150's comments, read the forums in here, then in the "Titantalk" site, test drive both the Titan and the F-150, asking which is better on either website will not give you the answer your looking for.
Let me give you a little background before I dive into my opinion. Have had a 94 XLT SuperCab 4.0L 4x4 Ranger for a long damn time, it's got a full exhaust system on it (JBA headers and Flowmaster American Thunder catback). For the past 4 years, I also had a Roush Stage 2 Mustang, so I'm used to the rough ride so to speak, mostly because of the my Mustang and the fact my Ranger is oooold. My Mustang also had Corbeau racing seats in it and was a solid platform with no flexing due to subframe connectors, rollbar, and tons other mods, and then throw on top of that a very stiff suspension -- although I found them fairly comfortable, even on long road trips although after a while they weren't something I'd want to cruise the country in.
That being said, I was in the market for a new (to me) truck. I went and test drove a 2004 FX4 SuperCrew with 10k miles (the one I bought), a 2002 FX4 SuperCrew with 40k miles, and a brand new 2005 XLT SuperCrew, and I test drove them in that order. All of them were 4wd by the way. A few weeks earlier I drove a friends 05 Lariat.
Driving the newer F-150 with the quiet steel and outboard shocks etc first really showed me the HUGE difference in ride and sound between the 04 FX4 and the 02 FX4. Day and night difference! The FX4 I purchased was fully loaded, leather, everything. The leather seats in my FX4 are wonderful. In my opinion, the FX4 even with what they call stiffer shocks rode just as wonderful as the Lariat. The seats are very very comfortable, but they are the upgraded leather ones, not stock. I could very easily tour the country in this truck.
I was also concerned with towing capacity so I brought up the fact that I was also interested in SuperDutys, 250s more specifically with the same engine. I then found out the FX4 tows as much and more than an equivalent SD250. Both trucks with a 5.4L 3V engine, 4x4, and SuperCrew, and 3.73LS, the FX4 can tow 9200 lbs, and the SD can tow 9000. Yeah, you can get bigger engines and of course tow more with certain options or gears on the SDs, but you'll also suffer on gas milage.
In the end, here's my recommendation...go drive them and see what you think. I haven't even had my truck a week and I absolutely love it, it's plush beyond belief for a truck; however I can't speak for the titan.
The capabilities of the new F150 have cut into the SD market big time, with the exception of the people who really use their SD for what it was designed, like towing 15,000+ lbs etc.

If your looking for a truck to do some real towing with, then the Titan isn't it (regardless of what somebody who owns one says). You can go to any Titan form and read post after post from guys who have blown their rear ends towing as little as 3000-5000 lbs. The drivelines are SERIOUSLY undersized for a truck. I'm not saying this just because I can't stand the Titan.
For towing/hauling your better off with either a Ford, Dodge, even Chevy/GMC would be a more reliable choice.

Thanks for all the opinions guys and I'll just have to get out there and do some test driving and see what each truck has to offer. I've always been a Ford man and I do like the looks of the new F150's so more then likely that's what I'll end up with once again, just need to decide which model. It would be a 4x4 Supercrew but not sure if it would be the FX4 or Lariat. I rode in my bosses 04 F150 4x2 and that thing is a whole lot quieter then my 99, I couldn't believe it.
Again thanks for the opinons and I guess I'll be getting out and doing some testing in the near future.
As for the diesel yeah I know it's another class of truck and I wasn't really comparing it to the 1/2 tons but it's just another truck I'm considering. The only problem with it is I only have a short commute Mon thru Fri. and I think it might be hard on the diesel engine, weekends it would be awesome but not during the week.
Again thanks for the opinions

I would buy my truck all over again if given the chance, I love it. No matter how nice or bad the Titan is, I just could not get over the fact that it is so ugly.(Yes this is personal preference, but you asked for my opinion.)
Drive a bunch of them, buy whatever suits you best. Nissan makes a fine truck. I really like my F150.
An F150 isn't a fair comparison to a new Superduty. Different tools for different jobs. If you're out to do a lot hauling and towing, then skip the half tons altogether.

What you will find with the F150 is options galore. 3 cab sizes, 3 engine sizes, 3 bed sizes, and 5 trim packages.
My recommedation is that you get the 5.4L engine with whatever cab or trim package that you choose. The extra torque is noticeble from the line. Also I opted for the captain chairs with my F150 and they have been more comfortable than any other vehicle that I have owned including 2 BMW 5 series.
Without a doubt I feel that this is the best LD truck that Ford has ever produced. The ride is superior to any other pickup that I have driven or ridden in. It is a solid package that has styling which turn heads everywhere it goes.
Also many aftermarket producers have jumped all over this new platform and make heaps of accessories to customize and personalize your new ride.
