New FX4! Problems already?!

Okay guys, I'm driving my new 2004 5.4L XLT Flareside with the FX4 package, and I'm recieving some immediate problems. The odometer is rolling into 12000 as it is now so I can't even believe it. For starters It is shutting off while slowing down! Sometimes when I decelerate the engine cuts off, makes a large BEEPing sound and the thing says Check Guages. Well when it happens all the guages are dead and I have to put it in neutral to get it to crank back up! This is in 2wd for more clarification. I thought this might be my gas grade so I went from 87 to 92 and its still doing it. Checked the oil, the only thing I can think of is take it back to ford, not even a check engine light stays on when it happens so thats really wierd? Next up the tailgate is squeeking?! Anyone else get this problem? Its really noticable driving without the radio? And thirdly for the price I payed it should wash itself!!! lol Anyone have any recommendations?

i don't know about your truck shuting off, but I may be able to help you with the tailgate squeak. For me it was the little plastic rollers that are on the hinge pins on either side of your box. My dealer tightened the hinges and sprayed some liquid grease on them and the sqeak is gone for now. (This was done 3 times) The squeak comes back everymonth or so but I just spray some WD-$0 on them and it stops. I am considering siliconing them solid on the pins so that they can't move. Hope this helps.

First and foremost welcome to the forums.

Second use the search button at the top of the page before someone gets a little grumpy with you as this has been talked about alot here.

Take your truck back to the dealer and have them start the process of trying to fix the problem. I personally have been in 3 seperate times since last summer for the same problem.
See this thread as it is the most recent one regarding our problem.

This link has alot more detailed info in it, including what they have tried on my truck and what they are about todo it.

For something major like your engine dying while driving, don't even think about it. Use your warranty and get it back to the dealer ASAP. There isn't even another option, just bring it back and let them fix it.

Welcome to the site.
congrats on the truck ( even with it's current probs )
The advice already given of taking it to the dealer is the thing to do, they should get that figured out for ya.

Keep us informed of the outcome will ya ?

There's a service message floating around about stalling during decel and at idle, but I can't find it for the life of me. The lines at the VMV should be inspected for liquid fuel migration.

Thanks For the info again Quintin
I brought my truck in this morning again for this problem and they replaced the gas tank. I mentioned the VMV problem to my service advisor and he looked at me like i was on drugs. He said the guy that would know had the day off and i should see if the new gas tank solves the problem. I guess i will be bringing it back in for service again and by them they should know about the VMV problem.

Just got back my truck from ford, they are ordering me a crap load of parts lol. The service woman was like, Yep, we reflashed your pcm which that should fix the problem, and we are "giving" you a new throttle body, gas tank, and etc etc... I did mention that service bulletin but she was like "Well I'd know if there was one!" So good luck on gettin that through to her lol ...... Well when the parts get in I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Ps: I hit a dog yesterday :P Does anyone know what the plastic guard thats attached to the bottom of the front bumper is called? It chipped it :P

Unless you are using a tuner you might not want to be running 92 octane in an 04 F-150.

Yes there is I have the same truck. I specifically ordered an xlt ( with ) fx4 suspension and skid plates and no stickers. if I knew how to put my window sticker on here i'd show you where it says what I ordered in options.

I spoke with troyer about this exact same thing a week ago. and I quote{ if in fact my truck runs better times at the track with premium and my fuel mileage is better with premium, which is it on both accounts} then do not run regular fuel. my truck runs 10:92/94/92 with regular fuel. it runs 10:70/72/68 on premium and i get about 35 or so miles more on a tank of gas.
Guess what, I'm running premium.

Well more power to you (slight pun intended), personally I would run whatever my truck was set up for. I was under the impression that the stock F-150 is set up for 87, not like the switch hitting Ram and Titan. Can't running higher octane in an vehicle set up for lower octane cause problems?
