Stalling concern update - Possible cause?

Read a bulletin this morning regarding '04+ F150s stalling when coming to a stop. Kinda in a rush right now, but it entails monitoring the VMV PID...supposedly, raw fuel gets in through the VMV and gets sucked into the engine, temporarily flooding it. There's an updated SSM your dealers will want to reference if you've having this concern, I'll find the number when I get home tonight.

Quintin im glad you are here as your knowledge and insight is greatly appreciated.
Funny you did this post, i was just reading the TSB list trying to find info on my truck stalling when slowing down and/or stopping or going around a corner. My truck has been in 3 times allready for this problem and it goes back in on friday so they can replace the fuel tank. I find it hard to believe my stalling is coming from a faulty fuel tank.

The weird thing is there is no TSB for the stalling problem, and it is probably the most serious problem that i have seen with our trucks. I have been very lucky that no one has been behind me everytime this has happened to me, but im sure this will lead to an accident yet.

I know it is a common problem as my dealer has tried to solve this problem on other trucks and i have seen numerous posts here with similiar problems.

Thanks for the headup and will check back tonight to see if there is info for me to pass along to my dealer.
Later Trev

stalling

my truck will just suddenly drop rpm's at a stop to below 400 , ( guessing ) it doesn't always die. then the rpm's jump to around a thousand and settle down to normal. I am like you all awaiting a fix / tsb. it has just about caused me to hit a car while backing up, i hit the brakes to slow down, the rpm's dropped and then jumped up to 1000 and caused me to shoot backwards i crammed hard on the brakes and i guess the lady behind waiting for my parking space thought i was horsing around she gave me a nasty look like, A$$**** whered you learn 2 drive. i just smiled waved and drove away.

I've had the same problem and went in 3 times to get it fixed. Finally on the 4th shot they got it fixed. It's the Throttle Position Sensor. There is a TSB / SMM (not sure which he said) but the SMM states that you should get a check engine light in which this case it doesn't happen.

This is what they put on my invoice.
"Checked OAISIS, Replaced TPS (Throttle position sensor) and Road Tested OK. It's been over a week and it's running smooth as ever.

Good luck guys. But this is the EXACT same thing I had.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

They tried replacing the MAF Sensor, Throttle Body and a new "FLASH" of the CPU. None of those worked.

Had the same issues. Do a search on "stalling" and you will find numerous posts/ replies. I took mine in and had the dealer download some new software to the ECM, at least that was what the guys were having done and that is what I told them. Anyways, hasn't stalled since and it has been a week or so.

VMV is the vapour management vent/valve - its parts of the evap system which controls emissions - from what i understand raw fule gets past the vent and basicly floods the engine, i believe the TSB has a new part to be installed.

Mac.

My truck was stalling on me several times a day, took in in to the dealer and they checked it out but found nothing wrong. Since that day it has not stalled once and it has been around at least 6 months? I was thinking it was caused by a loose harness on a component and while they were checking it out it was pushed on tighter than before? Good luck with the problem.

No prob .. Glad it worked out for ya. I got my tuner back from superchips as well. Seems like the 87 is a little weaker now than before. Also seems like they raised the idle a bit.

Bump... Updates?

Thought I would dusk this one off.

I just started to have this issue:

Slowing and stopping, the idle will drop almost causing a stall.

Any updated solutions? Anyone been through this issue?

Lightbulb

Thought I would post what worked for me in order to help anyone else having this issue.

Last night I removed my AF1 and took off the throttle body. I was able to clean it up and lube the valve. Also moved the TPS wire off the fuel rail.

I had several stops on the way to work and it ran SO good! No more stalls!
