2wd or 4wd Lariat?
Ordered an 05 Lariat Supercab in February with just about every option. The one thing I didn't get was 4wd. Not that I wouldn't love to have it, but I probably would only need it twice a year, and I've driven 2wd Ford trucks for the past 10 years with no problems, even in winter.
Also, since these trucks have gained about 700 lbs over the last body style, I really didn't want to add even more weight to a truck that many have complained about being slow.
Anyway, my salesman said that most people ordering Lariats go all the way with options, including 4wd.
So now I'm curious, how many 04-05 Lariat owners here have 2wd? 4wd?

Selva1,
I live in Dallas, Texas. We haven't had any snow that I have had to use my Lariat in 4x4. However, I had to pull a 600lb crate myrtle (spelled wrong, but it's a tree) into a hole. The ball was about 6' in diameter and about 4' tall. I finally (last year) got to use it to drag the tree into the hole in 4 wheel low. This was a first for me as I put it in 4 wheel high about once a month to keep everything (seals) lubbed. (paranoid tendencies showing) I had no idea how to get it out of 4 wheel low as 4 wheel high is shift on the fly. I had to finaly read the manual, even though it is hard to admit.
My point is you may never know when it comes in handy. I am originally from PA and you can never get all that snow out of your head.
If you can afford it, go for it...
Although you may want to look at the Aftermarket section of the forum. You may get hooked like me and the money saved could make it fast and pretty....

The salesman wouldn't try to talk you into an option that you didn't want would he???? I bought 4x4 because I didn't know where I was going to be stationed when I ordered it and I wanted to be ready for everything. Of course, I ended up in Phoenix and so far I've only used it once during a snow trip. I don't regret getting 4x4, just haven't used it too much so far. Anyway, we have a lot of off-road trails in the desert so maybe I'll get to try it out some more.

Proud of owner of a 4x4, couldn't live without it.
I would never make it out to the party spots!

Always better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it.
If you can afford it, you should get it.

My last SuperCrew was 2wd and I swore I'd never buy another because of several instances where I really 'needed' 4wd.
My new SCREW is 4wd and it paid for itself time eighty over this past winter when we had 18" of snow. There's no way I would've ever been able to get out of the driveway with a 2wd nor would I have been the guy blazing the roads (the first guy out) before the plows came through...
4wd... I won't go back to 2wd.
But, if you don't feel like you need it, it's an easy decision in my opinion. The sales guy will obviously get a little more in his back pocket if you drop another 2k on the table for the 4wd so, all in all, you need to decide what's best for you...

I suppose if I lived somewhere where it snowed, I might have 4WD, but seeing as how I'll never live anywhere like that, 2WD it is.

If you have ever found yourself saying, "if I only had 4x4"....then get it and never look back.
